We blogged in July about the Brimfield Antique Show (if any of you went, did you get anything good?). Its held 3 times a year in the quaint Western Massachusetts town of Brimfield, about 1 1/2 hours from both Boston and New York City. Brimfield's September show (the last one for 2008) starts today and runs until Sunday. Its the largest outdoor antiques show in the country, and you can find just about anything in its acres and acres of fields...
We like Brimfield because a great many of the booths are not run professional dealers. So the prices can be reasonable, and the stuff they sell ranges from sought-after collectibles to items that are staggeringly random like the booth above.
If you've never been to the Brimfield Show, we tried to include just about all the helpful information we could think of in our July post, but we forgot to include information about entrance fees (thanks ajh!). While several fields do charge a fee, particularly on their opening day, most don't. You can have a great time not spending a dime on admission, but if you're looking for something highly collectible, you should know that some of the "premium" fields (i.e. Heart-o-the-Mart and J&J Promotions), charge $5.00-6.00. Depending on what you are looking for, and if you're not "just browsing", paying the fee can be well worth it. Heart-o-the-Mart opens Wednesday morning and is the best place to find modern furniture.
If you can't make it this week but still want to go, the 2009 show dates are already posted on the Brimfield web site so you can put them on your calendar. They usually fall around Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor Day each year.

Usually when there's a show or flea market in another city's blog, someone goes and reports interesting finds to follow up. That would be nice this time around.

I picked up a vintage Japanese ukiyo-e print at the J&J Field this past spring for what seemed like a fair price ($35). My recommendation would be to go on the first or second day of the fair since the most sought after pieces are snatched up quickly, or so I've been told by the dealers. Happy hunting!

I love that maple syrup bucket picture. Those things make the best small wastebaskets, for instance, when you have a small bathroom and only a tight space next to the toilet for a wastebasket.
