Although Union Square is tucked away between the Red and Orange line in Somerville, it boasts plenty of great attractions that should motivate you to transfer off the subway and onto the bus. Among the best reasons to visit: the store Grand...

More than just a boutique, Grand offers an eclectic smattering of clothes, shoes and home goods from independent designers all over the world. The store is focused on combining art, design and style into an fresh environment that reminds us more of SoHo than Somerville. Located in a former auto body repair shop, they now occupy the first floor of a design-centric building, sharing space with a company who builds green roofs and an architecture firm.

Conceptualized by three Boston designers, its a fresh take on shopping and a treat for anyone interested in this city's design scene. This Saturday, June 28th is the perfect time to go as they have their first Sidewalk Sale complete with refreshments.

And since we're celebrating the outdoors this month on AT, make a day of it and visit Ricky's Flower Market, the Union Square Farmer's Market and the Boston Handmade Marketplace while you're in the neighborhood!

To get to Union Square, take any of the following buses: 87 (Lechemere/Clarendon Hill) and 85 (Kendal Square/Spring Hill) stop very close to Grand but the 80, 86, 88, and 91 all go through Union Square.

Why when I click New York on AT's main page does a posting about Boston appear at the top of the page? This site used to be much better before it become a shill for the New York Times/DWR/Room and Board/Ikea... ad nauseum...back when it was real people trying to come up with real solutions to people's living situations. And Boston? Please. Nothing but New York wannabees.

Woa... I just wanted to say that I saw "New York" and "Union Square" but then I got really confused! I thought it was kind of funny, haha :)

New york wannabees. too funny.
As a transplant from Philly (another supposed NY wannabee) to Boston, I thought we were more like san fransico wannabees than NY.

other than that, I do agree with westchesteral.
this site has totally jumped the shark. it is really getting hard to read anymore. I still do, obviously- but it is more like grazing than reading. especially with the deja-vu you get reading the articles.

what I truely can't stand is that you see a picture, then three words, then the inevitable "more after the jump"...

I mean, I know the ad dollars pay then rent and all-
so I can't fault them for that. But in the race to post all the info they can, many of my once favorite sites and blogs (not just this one) have become a homogenized incestuous mish-mash of each other, and lost their unique indivual points-of-view. that is what I really miss.

this is not the first time I have read comments like this on here-

my only hope is that AT takes some of it to heart, dwells on how to fix it, and re-invents itself.

Cranky Pants ? Meanie ? Not at all, just making an observation, especially since I am a native NY'er and lived just outside of Boston for more than 2 years but never gave up my apartment here and have recently moved back. Without question, Bostononians are some of the rudest, stupidest and racist people I have ever met.
And as for AT, I miss the days of passionate discourse between characters like P2 and Jonathan and Anne....

wow, i don't think that any of this Boston bashing is at all needed. I'm from Boston and take great offense to everything you just said, calling us stupid and racist and rude, is down right un called for. and now you can go ahead and say there are exceptions but your damage is done.
this post is about good design, apartment living, fun stuff.
i think you should take your hatred someplace else.
if you don't like the site, no one is forcing you to waste your time reading it or making fun of the people who do.
grow up

Hey dosergirl, my original complaint was that in clicking on New York on AT's home page brought me to a story about a design studio in Somerville. As for Boston bashing, rudeness and a sense of entitlement or privilige is prevalent enough that even the Boston Globe (which I still read regularly) has done articles about it . And racist, , take a look at the history of busing and education. Not exactly a history to be proud of. And stupid, well, when I met a woman who was a VP for a major real estate company and mentioned global warming to her, I got a blank stare like I might as well have been speaking about sub-atomic particle physics. And this was a woman in her thirties with 2 children under the age of ten. Boston born and bred and a product of the Boston education system. So Boston bashing, maybe. But if there is a link that says New York, I DO NOT want to read about Somerville.

And this site was much better in the past, like I said before it became a shill for the likes of Pottery Barn and Crate and Barrel and Ikea and fill in the blank... I come back here every now and then to see what direction this site is moving in in the hopes it will become a place for the free exchange of ideas and if you take offense at that then maybe you are at the wrong site not me.
