Its 8/08/08. The 8th day of the 8th month of the 8th year of this millenium. Its no coincidence that the Chinese chose to start the Olympics in Beijing today — at exactly 8:08pm. The date and time were specially picked in a bid to bring them luck — in many circles today is considered the luckiest day of the year...

We didn't wake up today feeling very lucky. With the rainy, unseasonably chilly New England weather today, we were actually feeling quite the opposite. But once we read what day it was we felt a bit better.
The lucky number eight means wealth and prosperity to Asians who observe Chinese numerology. Additionally, if you lay 8 on its side, it represents the symbol for infinity. So the triple-eight day just might be the most auspicious day for believers of lucky numbers.
Chinese authorities predict about 15,000 couples will marry on this day in Beijing. Proud parents Janet and Michael Stiteler of Atlantic City welcomed son Van Christian Stiteler on August 8 at 8:08 a.m.
What about you? Did anything lucky happen to you today?

i read somewhere that it was "considered the luckiest day of the century," but i am wondering if the author forgot about 8-8-80 and 8-8-88, or if those are somewhat less lucky? anyone out there have an opinion? :)

Luck doesn't exist. Chance does. And if by chance you have a crappy day today, you always have tomorrow to do it over.

On the 8th of August 1970 I got married. I'd certainly recommend the date.

My husband got in a major car accident on 8-8-08. A couple of robbers fleeing from the scene rammed into him, a fire hydrant and another car before fleeing on foot.
His car is totaled.
The good news? Not a scratch on him (just a little sore).
I can either look at this as a very UNLUCKY day or VERY lucky that nothing serious happened to him.
