apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Boston & New England Blogger Search: Due Today!

hiring120108.jpg
We are looking for a new blogger to help us cover Boston and the New England area. Do you love Apartment Therapy, interior design and all things home-related? Would you like a place to share your ideas and inspirations with a large design-centric community? Think you would like to join our team? If this is you, jump below for the details:

While we'd really like someone from the Boston area, we could be swayed to add an additional stellar voice from the surrounding New England region: Providence? Burlington? Portland? — convince us!

Responsibilities include daily posting that fully communicates the design scene of Boston and the New England region with house tours, shop reviews, product reviews, interviews and random design notes.

This is a part-time, freelance position (1-2 posts per day) and it's great (but not required) if your other gigs plug you in to the design scene in some way.

You need:
• excellent camera skills and a good eye for stellar images
• strong blog-style writing skills
• a really good computer
• a totally reliable high speed connection
• a digital camera
• Photoshop or Photoshop Elements
• knowledge of how to use all these things

Deadline: Monday, May 4 (earlier is always appreciated!)

Please submit:
• Your name
• Where you live
• How long you have been reading Apartment Therapy
• What you do full time
• 2 sample posts with great pics (good photos are very important and we urge you to take your own pics to show off your skills) that would be excellent AT:Boston and New England posts — keep it 200 words maximum and blog local subjects or give national subjects a unique, local twist. We want to be WOWED with your unique voice and awesome pictures! Please submit posts written specifically for Apartment Therapy and not for another blog. Look to the Apartment Therapy city sites for the general style and format of posts for submission.

Send to: aaron (at) apartmenttherapy (dot) com please put "AT BLOGGER SEARCH" in the subject header.
We will confirm your email, and then review your submissions. We will then ask our top choices to try out live on the blog.

What about Seattle?! There's other awesome cities on the WEST SIIIIDE outside of California. :)

I'm partially kidding, you guys do some stuff with Seattle, I just think there's a lot more that could be shown.

You need to have someone covering areas outside of the major cities. NYC, Boston, DC, Philadelphia all have lots of interesting places, but you'd be surprised at what's going on out in the hinterlands.

I'm with you, audemars. Seattle style is not synonymous with Cali style! But heck, I'd move to Boston to blog for you guys :)

Agreed with ndoublel - specifically, AT needs much much more New Orleans!! If I were still there, I'd beat that with a stick.

I know Austin gets covered some, and Austin is a great, cool city, but Dallas really should have a spot in the line-up. Lot's of great design, fantastic designers, and hip shopping in Big D. I'd even love to blog for Dallas!

I agree about coming down below the Mason-Dixon.
I also think Sante Fe, New Orleans and Atlanta would be great cities to add as well.

Let's see...I studied interior design at The New England School of Art and Design, my mother is an interior designer, and currently I blog about design. Oh..I'm also from Boston, and know a thing or two about it's rich design history. I included my mother's website so you get the feeling of the exposure I received.

Might as well add some whinging to the pile, haha! Portland has a dedicated contributor (according to the Team page), Lise, as part of AT:SF but I haven't seen her post since January :( Does Danielle now cover PDX as well as Seattle? Also, I thought that AT Chicago had hired on a Minneapolis but again, haven't seen many Mpls-specific posts either. Boo, the two cities I live in and both of them with absentee AT writers. Is it me? Do I smell? ;)

I'm sure it's hard for AT to be inclusive of every single region, but it does seem like a few more could better represent the Southeast, and some major cities in Canda (both East & West). Of course, everyone thinks where they live must be the most deserving.

Please pick sabbespot for your blog!!! She is one of the most creative bloggers I've seen. She is moving to Boston from Tennessee and I definitely think having her viewpoint on the city after coming from the south would put a fun, interesting spin on your blog. I can't imagine a better fit for this job. I have her blog saved in my favorites and view it every day to see what she's going to come up with next!

Check her out!!

anne-lise good suggestion....

I've been to Metamorphosis a few times. Because it is a true modern/vintage furniture store the prices are high, but they do have some small trinkets that are affordable. Their line ranges from Vintage Eames to modern Alessi.

I've been thinking of applying for the blog position here in Boston, but have been really busy with work and I think the deadline is today....who knows maybe i'll do a quick trial blog this weekend and see what happens.

If you ever do go to Metamorphosis on Mass Ave. there is also a great echo friendly shop across the street, as well as a unique shop called Nomad down the street that has great hand painted Mexican kitchen tiles, bags, clothing, etc.

Okay most of the folks here have talked about all the places Apartment Therapy needs to be, I’m going to address a place that Apartment Therapy is, and I’m going to tell you about someone that you need writing for you. SabbeSpot currently lives in Memphis Tennessee but will be relocating to Boston in June. She’s been reading the Apartment Therapy blog for as long as I’ve known her. She’s a full time industrial interior designer, but that’s not what would make her great for this job. The reason she’s a perfect fit for this position is her enthusiasm and passion for the places she calls home. You can see it in her “Nut Remix” post on December 7, 2008 as well as in her January 31, 2009 post where she shares her love of the city she’s called home for the last 3 years by giving a book that embraces its history. Her personal style, and her eye for seeing things that others may throw out or pass by comes through in posts like “Shadow Fixtures” on April 17, 2009, “I Opened my Christmas Present” on December 16, 2009, and “Environmental Bag Lady” posted February 21, 2008. On top of all of this, she’s already begun embracing Boston and their art scene which can be seen in her December 10, 2008 post, “Behold! The Wonders of Tara Donovan”, and “She Said I Think I'll Go to Boston”, her most recent post on April 30, 2009.

I know she’s working on a submission of her own, but I just wanted to be sure that you knew that I’m a life long reader of SabbeSpot and in turn Mrs. Sabbe. This means that I’ll follow her wherever she writes, and I know I’m not the only one!

Hire Mrs. Sabbe!!! - http://sabbespot.blogspot.com/

And STILL no love for the South. Seriously, I think it is time I give up on this site, since it has no respect or interest in my entire region.

Stephanie Sabbe would be an outstanding creative writer with a fresh perspective for Apartment Therapy. You need to read her blog, http://sabbespot.blogspot.com, to appreciate her creative genius and outlook on life. Her blog caught the interest of Michael Maraham of New York which prompted him to send her a gift....the story is an interesting and impressive read. Her departure from Memphis is Boston's good fortune. People that live in one city all their life take for granted their fabulous surroundings and history, however, viewed through new eyes and heart is an adventure to explore and appreciate. If Mrs. Sabbe is interested in this position, don't delay....say yes! She will succeed in whatever she does in Boston.....don't let it be said...."We let HER get away!"

I'd like to cast a vote for AT Canada, I think the diverse weather we have here can add an interesting dynamic.

Also, your business cards are great! I'd love to know where you have them printed - those rounded corners look custom.
