apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Moveable Magnet Calendar

Ever see that Sarah Jessica Parker movie, If Lucy Fell, where she and her roommate had a giant, painted calendar on their apartment wall and would prime over and re-paint the whole thing on the first of every month? Smaller scale and a lot less labor intensive, these magnets still make a pretty creative calendar...

Unlike many modern-minded folks, our frig is totally covered with stuff — pictures of nephews, postcards from loved ones, offensive + delightful cards to one another — and we'd love to make room for these calendar magnets.

The set includes 32 numbered days (just in case), and special days like "Deadline", "Arrival", "Departure", five "Drink Day" and one "Don't Drink Day." The only downside is all the months are in Russian abbreviation. Making magnets is fairly easy so maybe this would make a nice DIY project on a rainy weekend. At any rate, its a nice alternative to the ubiquitous chalkboard calendar without the hard labor of a 90's romantic comedy calendar.

I like my large paper calendar with spaces large enuf for me to write reminders. This sounds like too much work, also, and when a day falls off then I would be all mixed up......

I've always thought about doing something similar in Post-It notes. That way you can customize the "font" of the month for each month, or at least the mood you are in at the time, substituting different colors for holidays or other days of importance, or different color Sharpies for different types of events (or meetings in an office environment. It's from Russia and it only has five drink days and what's with the no drink day?

The country is so different from when I spent the guts of a year there in 1993.
