Sneakers as Art at the Achilles Project

sneakers-1.jpg

We’ll admit to a mild (ok, ok, full-blown) shoe obsession and we’re firmly of the opinion that there are quite a few sneakers out there qualifying as art, so why not treat them that way? We’ve shown you a few interesting sneaker collections in the past and here’s another display idea, designed by Providence's 3six0 Architecture. During retail hours, these cases at the Achilles Project in Boston are open, but at night—when the store in a former warehouse space turns into a bar and restaurant—translucent slides close and the sneakers become part of the wall décor.

Plenty of people would probably rather keep their stinky sneakers off the display shelf, but we can easily imagine rigging up a similar multi-function set-up at home, especially since we are sorely lacking adequate closet space. Besides, what’s the point of having a kick-ass collection if you don’t show it off?

Looks like a retail space. Why do you want your house to look like a store?
