Bicicleta Outdoor Rug

06_09_bici_cover.jpg

Although the Nanimarquina Bicicleta Rug has been around for quite a while, we really love the concept and the execution. That said, it doesn't seem like the kind of material we'd want in our living room but it could be a wonderful addition to an outdoor space, creating an interesting and durable contrasting texture. Most exterior rugs are very flat but Bicicleta adds depth, texture, and would really soften a hard exterior space...

The rug is made from 130/140 100% recycled bicycle inner tubes, collected and hand made in India. We've handled our fare share of bicycle tubes and this must be one fascinating rug to walk on. It may be a little stinky, though, unless they have some way to seal the rubber and reduce the smell. Maybe it wouldn't be too big a deal outdoors because it seems like you could just hose it down.

Available for $1400 at Stardust.

Price point aside, would you consider putting this rug inside or outside?

I think it could be very cute outside. I bet it would be cushy to walk on in bare feet when getting the mail off our porch. But, wow! The price!

I wouldn't want this rug, at any price, let alone $1200! That is insane. Bike tubes smell terrible and are usually dirty. That's not the ideal material for a rug, even an outdoor rug.

I would actually hang it inside, away from my pooch ;)
