Black on Black: Going All the Way
House Beautiful

When perusing paint swatches, most of us wonder who really uses the deep black shades to encapsulate an entire room. Interior Designer Windsor Smith didn't just stop at black walls, she added black trim, a black rug and black furnishings to this game room.

Smith used Ralph Lauren's Bone Black to cover the walls of a game and music room for her two sons. Pretty amazing result! Of course, the zippy blue ping pong table in the middle of the space lightens up the room and creates a great contrast with the black. The expansive window and generous additions of white in the room also help make this room a success.

To see Windsor Smith's entire home, check out the full article from House Beautiful.

What's your reaction to this all-black space? Think you'd ever have the guts to try something similar?

I am dubious about the polar bear art, not a good subject these days :(. The rest is too rigid for its own good and cold.

Love the room - Not so sure about the ping-pong table, but it is a game room after all...

Lori -

I generally agree w/ you on many things, but I'm curious what in your opinion makes the Polar Bear painting 'undesirable'? Does that mean my collection of little ceramic Polar Bears is now suddenly un-PC?

bepsf- nothing to with being un-PC its just personally every time I see Polar Bears I get a very very heavy heart, its just heat breaking so much I can't watch them on nature programs in what is left in their natural habitat. Just the uncertainty of the only way we will see them in the future is in pictures, art, etc...

The polar bear comment made me scroll back up in case I missed something like an actual polar bear skin or something, but um, hello, it's a painting? I like it. It's amusing to have this (painted, not dead) polar bear lumbering into the room through a visual door. Almost The Golden Compass-y. I think it's kind of weird to think that a painting of an animal is now somehow considered inapprorpriate.
