There’s a lot of appropriate hoopla lately about the waste of maintaining a grassy green yard in today’s environment. Well, here’s a little compromise for urban dwellers from Japanese designer Chiaki Murata that requires much less TLC and resources…

Murata’s planters come in a flat circle style or standing square/rectangular styles that can be stacked on top of each other. We were particularly drawn to the circular one, imagining it as a captivating centerpiece with some candles in the middle. All the planters, (manufactured by Metaphys) whether square or circular, come with orchard grass seeds and a water retention agent to get you started
