Ricardo Bofill's Cement Factory Home
LoftLife

We received this impressive peek inside architect Ricardo Bofill's Barcelona home and office via LoftLife — it's an abandoned cement factory that Bofill found in 1973 and has adapted to highlight the industrial past and his own unique design aesthetic.

The expansive home is ruin-like — this is only accented by the impressive gardens and plantings that surround the factories former buildings and silos. Just look at this giant raw space!

From LoftLife: Today, the factory has been successfully transformed into his personal home, as well as a multitude of offices, modeling and archival laboratories, a projection room, and a huge space known as ‘The Cathedral’, which serves as a venue for subsequent exhibitions, lectures, and concerts.

You can see more pictures at Ricardo Bofill's site and from LoftLife | Loft Tour: The Cement Factory.

mtv cribs visited a place very much like this some years ago, and it belonged to a spanish-speaking singer (unfortunately, that's all i can remember). i was blown away. great to be reminded of it!

youreacigarette, I recognised it as being on MTV Cribs too, but I can't remember the singer's name either. I think she is the step-daughter of the architect (I'm sure it is the same place). One of the things I remember about it that isn't shown here is that they had a (non-industrial) walk-in fridge.

Cool in theory, but I couldn't imagine living here. Way, way, way too big for any normal-sized family. I'd feel bad if I weren't housing a whole camp full of gypsies along with me.
