Just in time for the kick-off of the holiday gift-giving season, Design Hive, a new weekly showcase of emerging and established designers, is opening THIS Saturday, November 1st from 10am-5 pm. This is not your run-of-the-mill craft fair. In addition to checking out the wares, you can rock...

...out to local DJs spinning some records. The weekly event will be held at The Baldwin School cafeteria in Cambridge. From now until December 20th, when the market finishes for the year, you'll be introduced to clothing, jewelry, pottery, and housewares from 100 local designers (it doesn't sound like all the designers will be selling every week.)

Design Hive is the brainchild of Val Fox. She was inspired by the plentiful independent designer markets in New York City and wanted to bring a similar experience to Boston. So check it out this weekend and report back to Boston readers in the Open Thread.

My friend of ten years made that white bowl in the second picture! She makes incredibly beautiful work. Thanks for showing it to the world, Kyle!
