Bemz Now Offering Replacement Covers for IKEA Poang Chairs

Let's face it, the IKEA Poang chair is ubiquitous for a reason. It's passably attractive, reasonably comfortable and a decent price. While IKEA offers a good range of cushion covers, Bemz now offers 123 (!) styles to replace the old Poang cushion cover that your dog has rendered too gnarly for company (see a snapshot of all the options after the jump)...

We've known Bemz for their other sofa and chair replacement covers for IKEA furniture but they recently added Poang covers to the line-up. A spot check of the Bemz cover patterns revealed a price range of $85-$105. And Bemz is also selling covers for the Poang footstool. And by the way, there is usually an abundant supply of IKEA Poang chairs on Craigslist at any given moment so save yourself some money by purchasing a used Poang and sprucing it up with a new Bemz cover. Bemz now offers 10 free fabric samples so be sure to check out the fabric before ordering your final product!

I loathe that chair - no matter the pattern and/or color.

The Bemz chair cushion is $95. and the footstool cushion is $49. A new Poang chair with basic cushion is $89 and the footstool is $39. The slipcovers seem like a lot of money for what you get. Might as well look for a better chair.

Update - I clicked on the fabric I liked best and the prices went to $125 for the chair cushion and $65 for the footstool. I could make Poang slipcovers (basically just rectangles) for a lot less than that.

To be fair, the better chair has to be comfy, lightweight, and sturdy and in a fabric you like and still under 200 dollars for that to be outright better than the poang.

Most new chairs aren't all those things simultaneously and most vintage jumps out of the price range once reupholstered.

[Christie at Bemz] Thanks Kyle for the shout out and to everyone who left comments. We appreciate the feedback! As we offer over 120 fabrics that can be custom-made to fit about 90 different models, each of which is sewn to order, it admittedly doesn't always work out to be cheaper than mass produced items from Ikea. However, we offer you this vast range to choose from as our main ambition is to give you the opportunity to put your personal mark on your furniture and your home - ideally without blowing your budget. Plus, all of our all-natural fabrics are hard wearing, stain resistant and machine washable, not to mention that you are unlikely to sit on a similar one at a friend's house!

I love Bemz. It's probably the greatest thing I've gotten from Apartment Therapy (and that's saying a lot).

Thanks for using this photo of our Callie dog and for the nice comments. She is indeed a great dog. As an AT reader, imagine my surprise to see my dog in my RSS feed!
