Look at the fun colors in this shelf from Barcelona-based manufacturer RS! Inspired by the colors of the sunset, each powder-coated steel shelf is actually two parts that let the owner play with the gradient colors and adjust the telescoping length of the shelves for customized use...

Designed by Stone Designs for RS, the metal shelves are supported by a Finnish Beech frame. The shelf measures 64" wide x 79" tall x 16" deep — a great size for a room divider in a loft or open space! Though I haven't seen this shelf in the US, RS products have been available in the past from Janus et Cie (which has a Boston show room) and The Conran Shop in New York City.

Fun! I dig it. I'd injure myself on it though. Not as fun.

I really like this.

Looks really nice as a room divider too, as shown.

I love the fun colors, and the adjustability, but the sharp ends of the shelves would surely end up causing me damage...
My guess is that this is intended for those without children and those who are pretty well coordinated. Although if it was placed against a wall instead of as a room divider, that would make it feel "safer"

I love this! I imagine it's well past my price range, but you could borrow the idea by painting an existing backless bookcase. No telescoping, but you could at least paint each shelf a different color. You could even paint each shelf two colors to get a similar gradient effect.

Looks great...but those shelves jutting out like that are just begging for my leg to smack into it. I would have to have it up against a wall in order to prevent injury.

Love it, but am leery of the telescopingness...telescopacity? anyway, I imagine it buckling under the weight of a full load of books. And definitely do-able-yourselfable. Ikea's Enitri could easily be repainted to look like this.

That's what comes to my mind too, suzy8track. I would be afraid my kids would run their faces into it.
