apartment therapy changing the world, one room at a time

Small Cool 2009: arenavioleta's Multipurpose in Mass.
Tiny Division #26

thumbs up

Who Lives Here: arenavioleta, husband, 2 year old son
Location: Cambridge, Massachusetts
Size: 400 square feet

What is your one favorite element in your small, cool home? I love how the lighting manages to come in in spite of the fact that we had to arrange the room as multipurpose.

Give arenavioleta a THUMBS UP if you think this home belongs in the finals!

What was one of the biggest challenges you faced in furnishing your small home? The biggest challenge for us as students was the budget, we dealt with this mainly by buying furniture of from craigslist and at IKEA. The second biggest challenge was that we had to fit in one room: both of our studies, the dinning room, the living room, and our toddler's play area.

Give arenavioleta a THUMBS UP if you think this home belongs in the finals!

Bravo on the three of you living in a small space. I have a 500 sq foot space that I'm trying to decide on how to use for me, my cat and a baby. Thanks for the inspiration.

I think you have done a great job putting it all together. Having a toddler in that space cannot be easy but you seem to be doing it very well. And, I agree, darling little boy.

Well done on finding space for your family and your life in such a small space. Do either/both of you work from home?

And way to tug the heart-strings with photos of your kid! What a cutie.

love the dining room chairs. And love seeing a space where a real family obviously lives. Your little boy is precious!

Wow I should probably put up pics of my kid for a contest! LOL!
Thanks for the posts and the tombs up.
The Arabic stuff is my husband's who is a PhD student in middle eastern studies. I am a stay home mom so I guess you can say I work from home, my husband comes come to study when he can. The dining room chairs came from my husband's grandparent's house, they are the same we use in our offices except I covered them with lamb skin for comfort.

Good job Arena - on both your apartment and your son! Nice to find you here too. It's good to see other families making their small space work.

for such a TINY space, I think you did a great job!

as time goes by though, hopefully you'll be able to blend or "mix" your white formica furniture, w/ your rich wood furniture?

but again, great job and cute baby!
