Something From Nothing: A Cardboard Office!

Made almost entirely out of cardboard, Nothing is a commercial creative agency in Amsterdam. Designers Joost van Bleiswijk and Alrik Koudenburg took the idea behind the company name — taking nothing and turning it into something — as the genisis for the design of the office itself, including walls, signage, beams, tables, shelving and stairs all created from cardboard. Additionally, it is a backdrop for visitors to leave their own mark on the office with little doodles and drawings...

The concept is excellent but the actual results of this brand application are even better. The designers say they used a "no screw, no glue" technique to build out the space and create a truly striking interior from the most mundane of materials. It looks like an architectural model come to life and — without all the chairs and computers — we think it would look exactly like a little scale model. So all of you out there with big open lofts and no idea how to fill it, here's your inspiration! Get some cardboard and a matt knife and get to work...

More on the development and construction.

oooh, I saw this earlier today on another design website, thanks for sharing it! I haven't really done cardboard construction before but would love to give it a whirl. Where would you go to buy large sheets of corrugated cardboard at these dimensions? I would prefer to buy locally then get it shipped if possible.

Thanks!

Totally awesome, but I'd perpetually be afraid of papercuts!
Super super concept, and even cooler that they executed it so nicely.

Hmmm...what would happen if I spilled my coffee on that?

great concept, but it seems like an awful lot of work for something lacking durability...

Would there be 'extra' panels in storage somewhere, for the inevitable denting that will occur? I saw this on coolhunting earlier this week.

I think lacquered cardboard should hold up about as well under a coffee spill as low-grade MDF with paper-thin veneer.

So wearing stillettos to work is out then.

Brings to mind the story of three little pigs, doesn't it?
