Surreal Design for the Home: Antoine + Manuel

French designers Antoine Audiau and Manuel Warosz create fantastical furniture and wall decoration which seem a natural extension of the supremely creative graphic design work they’ve been churning out under the name Antoine + Manuel for over ten years.

It’s inspiring to see work that is so far beyond the ordinary — ornamented like a long lost antique, but still completely modern. We’re dying to see what they’ll do next.

The panels on that cabinet are beautiful. But the legs and all that crap on top kind of kill it.

To me, all these look like they'd feel outdated as soon as the paint dried, or even before.

Just because it's beautiful doesn't mean it's actually usable. I'd consider a lot of this "runway-interiors"... things that look good in the runway but you wouldn't ever wear/decorate with. (and I'm not talking about the examples here, those are pretty mild) but a lot, if not most of their website is the definition of self-indulgence... and it's not high-quality... it's just shock-factor aftermath. No, the pieces won't feel outdated, because it's not a particular style... they'll just feel like they never belonged anywhere in your home... and that's a good thing or a bad thing, depending on what you were going for; then again, let's be honest at the turnaround rate of their work, they're bound to come up with SOMETHING that's actually both appealing and usable... and then it might have a chance of wide spreading and making it a fad. (that's when it might look dated). This reminds me of what could've been the way they came out with the Alto vase shape. lol

A bit overkill with the design.

Horrible. But not in a good way.
