Table Dressing: Chilewich Pressed Vinyl Dots

11_07_Chilewich1.jpg

We've never been too big on table decor in our home but we've also never had much of a table to decorate. That all changed this year when we inherited a magnificent 6-person Danish dining table and decided it was time to do it up, proper like. We stumbled across the Chilewich Pressed Vinyl Dots table runner in a museum gift shop and then proceeded to spot it all over town. It wasn't long before it came home to live with us...

11_07_Chilewich2.jpgThe dots create a wonderfully vibrant pattern as they allow the color of your table to peak up through the cutouts. We have the white runner on our warm wood table and couldn't be happier with our purchase. And at only $28 we think it adds a lot of sophistication for not a lot of money.

Chilewich also offers the Pressed Vinyl Dots in placemats for those who haven't yet graduated to full table runner mode. Available at Velocity and Unica Home.

Wow, I love these!

Are the cutouts actually cut out? Or are they clear vinyl?

Just wondering about the actual protection factor for tables if you place a sweating drink on top.

Thanks for sharing this neat item!

Kayla here -

The cutouts are actual cutouts - the negative space is your actual table top. For protection from drinks I'd suggest a little coaster of some sort...

Thanks for the link! I remember seeing the placemats on a blog somewhere (maybe AT?) and have been hunting for them.

Hooray for vinyl!
What better way to enjoy a nice meal than to have that "new vinyl" smell suffocating you and your guests.

One of the worst materials ever.

not all vinyl is bad and not all vinyl smells. The keyboard you are typing on mosly likely does not smell nor suffocating you.

I've been using Chilewich placemats and I love them. No vinyl smell. Tough as nails. Gorgeous. And easy to clean.

Oooh. I've been looking for something unusual to use as a flat "sheer" window panel. Think I could make these work, if the trim size cooperates/coordinates with my windows?? If they're vinyl, I wonder if I could rig them into a windowshade of sorts. Opinions? Links to good how-to's, anyone?

Window shades is a terrific idea. I can see joining together panels large enough to fit the IKEA panel curtain system. Very cool.

Now I'm thinking about a room divider shade...

I just saw these at Neiman's and couldn't believe how cheap they were (for Neiman's standars specially) but wasn't sure if they would look good on my wood table. Now I have to try!!!
