A nice set of hex keys is our #1 useful bike tool for both working on the bike and around the house. Don’t bother with the short uncomfortable tools that come with Ikea furniture – bike tools are made to work at different angles and provide a lot more torque for saving your fingers. Also, don’t bother trying to keep track of which Ikea tool goes with which piece of furniture because you’ll always have the right size when you have hex keys. Our large adjustable wrench which we bought to adjust the bike's bottom bracket has also come in handy on more than one occasion around the house.

Do you use any tools around house that were designed for completely other uses?
I've always thought I could find an alternate use for my chain whip...

Sometimes I use a pair of scissors instead of a screwdriver...does that count?

Every one of my full length screwdrivers has had its handle used as a plastic mallet. I have a plastic mallet, but it seems there is always a screwdriver closer at hand.
