Since our home is Mid-Century Modern, we knew we wanted to keep our baby's nursery clean, simple and someplace he could grow into. My husband is a musician, so we have an abundance of guitars around the house. In addition to needing a place to stash one or two, we also knew that he would want to play for our son, so the music theme evolved pretty organically!
We found the orange album cover in his vinyl collection, the orange guitar pillow, and the toy box (I couldn't resist it!), and the color palette came together! I also knew I would be incorporating the rocking chair (it was my mother's when she was a child). I had originally planned on painting it, but now I'm so glad I decided to leave it as-is.
The dresser/changing table and some of the other smaller items in the room are repurposed from other rooms in the house. Most of the rest of the furniture is from IKEA with the exception of the glider - my one big splurge (but I'm so glad I did - we have spent HOURS in it!). The rug was a great find on One Kings Lane - it was actually the first thing I bought for the room. I loved the graphic pattern and knew I wanted a bold rug in the space.
We had a ton of fun with the walls. In addition to the guitar and album covers, I found this great print of monsters playing music that fit perfectly with our color scheme. One of my favorite things in the room is the framed onesie. We had been toying around with the name Bowie when we came across this onesie in a shop and decided to buy it "just in case". After he grew out of it I put it in a frame I had as kind of a subtle way of putting his name up in the room.
Thanks, Sarah! Readers, you can visit Sarah at Prairie Hive and see even more of Bowie's room here.
