Our absolute favorite rooms are those that are simple, comfortable, down-to-earth. Much like Urban Mercantile owner Bradley Burch's rented kitchen, which, he says, needs new paint and plaster, among other things. Obviously Zakka Publishing likes it as much as we do -- the Japanese company's putting together a San Francisco Kitchens book and Burch's apartment will be included.
Also featured in the book are Diana Fayt -- you may remember her kitchen from our House Call -- and Rae Dunn and Jeanine Payer.

Wow Bradley that is beautiful. Lori with the Jacke Russell in Cole Valley here.
I am putting in a good word because this is one of my favorite shops in the city. Great for gifts or a nice things for the home that does not cost a fortune, plus its not the same things you see every where else. They have a great eye and their space is lovely.
One of my favourite kitchens on AT!
It's not over-renovated, doesn't have the bland cabinets and ubiquitous stone countertops.
I absolutely love love love that kitchen. The simplicity is gorgeous. I know it's a rental, but I also love the old details. I'm kind of getting sick of overly-modern, absolutely-minimialist kitchens.
I spend more time in my kitchen than in any other room, so comfort is a big deal to me. I'm already comfortable in this kitchen and I'm not even in the room! Well done.

Love the paint color!
Echoing the love. Love the open shelves and upper ccabinets. Love all of it.
I love this look...but I could never pull it off. The dust alone would make me cringe.
Wow! I guess I'm missing something. It's nice and neat but, not really blown away.
LOVE THIS LOOK, BUT IT'S NOT FOR ME
