Watch any show on the Discovery Channel or the Nature channel and it is clear that the natural world offers an abundance of inspiration for design. Take tree branches, for example. Naturally curved, sturdy and elegant, branches can be used as a model for designing a whole host of home goods. What about taking it one step further and using actual branches in your home? No better place to start than with floor and ceiling lamps!
The fantastic branch-based light shown in the first photo comes from Swedish photographer Idha Lindhag via Desire to Inspire This idea is so brilliant. Why bend metal to make an elegant arc when you can use the natural curves and bends of a tree branch?
All you need to make the affordable branch pendant shown in images 2 and 3 is an electrician, a large tree branch and 4 fabric-covered cables with either plastic or porcelain white sockets. Decor8 guest blogger Anna-Malin Lindgren was inspired when she saw photo 3. For detailed DIY instructions please visit Decor8!

The pictures are pretty overexposed.. kind of hard to see what's going on.
I like the look of the first one, but I am pretty sure that branch in the first picture will start to sag over time.
I have such a weird fascination with branches/trees indoors as decor - so I think these are so awesome.
i too have a weird branch fascination--can't get enough. Great finds Catrin!
I love the natural elements combined with a more industrial look. It's warm, but clean and simple! And such a cute DIY project!
