Brass animal figurines remind me a bygone era when people smoked cigarettes, wore cufflinks, and drank in the afternoon. They're a mix of a little bit of history and a little bit of fun. Because of their age, they have a beautiful natural patina, but if you prefer a true brass gold, give them a good polish.
These brass animal figurines are mostly decorative, but they can also serve as paper weights or book ends, depending on the size.

My aunt used to have some brass giraffes and elephants that I loved playing with as a kid. I would love to display them now. I'll have to ask her if she still has them.
I have a small brass squirrel that I've had so long that I can't remember a time when he wasn't around. He's such a cutie, I'll never get rid of him.
What's wrong with drinking in the afternoon? At work, for instance.
Oh deer. Been there, done that.
My mother had those hideous little owls. I always hated them.
I collect brass unicorns and little brass bowls shaped like turtles. You'd be amazed at how often I stumble onto both.
I have those deer, though smaller than the ones shown. I saw them at a thrift store a few years ago and bought them because they reminded me of the ones my grandma had when I was little.
It turns out she still has them, but hers are slightly smaller than mine. I remember we used to spend hours playing with them. Such memories.
Man, I thought these were sort of cute (especially the rabbit), but those pricetags? Yikes. Just go to pretty much any thrift shop and you'll probably find a billion figurines just like these, but with more reasonable prices. I see these all of the time at the Goodwill and the little ones are never more than 2 or 3 bucks, the big ones not more than 20. I'm always a little tempted, because I am a huge animal lover, but I already have a few that I got from my grandma that serve as cute little trinkets to decorate my little shelf of old books. Trinkets like these are cute, but get more than a couple and they quickly become unattractive clutter.
Also, lots of people still enjoy smoking cigarettes, so I'm not sure why you would call that part of a bygone era. I understand that being elitist about not smoking is now the cool thing to do, but it seems like a pretty silly thing to say either way.
When did people stop drinking in the afternoon?
I overheard a guy shopping in Goodwill talking enviously about his friend who found a large brass deer there recently. I thought he was interested because of the popularity of these items in decor now. But then he called the scrap yard to find out how much brass is going for these days! It sounded like he was disappointed with the answer. Imagine melting these down as scrap!
we just bought the same quail design at an estate sale!
I have three of those owls. I got them for a dollar.
i found six or so similar owls at various sales in alabama and some other locales i can't remember back when i traveled the world's longest yard sale two years ago!
i will add that mine all have nice patinas though.
My grandfather gave me a brass owl many years ago- a tall, mature-looking owl though, not those mini cutesies. I didn't realize that brass animals were ever a thing- the owl was just something grandpa gave me when we moved.
Guilty pleasure: I collect brass monkeys and probably have 30.... ::blush:: Of course, my wife made me pack them all away when we moved into this house. I'm still trying to find a home for them here...
Love the animals! I have a couple of those in my living room which I'm trying to decorate product by product in a vintage style and I would like to ask, what do you think about the Mademoiselle Armoire by Koket? It is not specifically vintage but I thought it could be the "piéce de resistance" of my living room! Thanks*
