This is one of the coolest things we've seen in awhile. We just got a new tree in our tree box and to celebrate, the kids have been making pine cone birdfeeders to hang on the young branches. But on seeing this, we're ready to retire our pine cones and make a few of these bread birdhouses.
It's so simple. All you need is a loaf of bread. It's a great way of using up stale (unsliced) bread around the house. You can cut the loaf into shapes to look like a birdhouse. Then insert a stick into the loaf to make a perch for hungry birds. If you like this one, go and check out all of the different bread birdhouse designs the team over at We Upcycle came up with.

Shaw's Original Fir...
what is a "tree box"?
Isn't bread BAD for birds??
Also, that looks more like a present for rodents rather than shelter for birds.
what if it rains? It gets soggy then falls on the string.
The raccoons in my neighborhood would have that down in a heartbeat.
In our neighborhood, the squirrels would be all over that "birdfeeder". Sorry, this is not one of your better ideas.
Sorry but that is just a feast for rodents, not for birds!!!
i think it looks adorable (and i had to post ONE positive comment) even if it's not the most practical.
Ditto the squirrels. I do think it's a fun idea, but perhaps not one that would be all that successful. I was wondering about whether birds are meant to eat bread, as well.
i have never heard anything about birds not eating bread! we feed bread to our neighborhood birds and city ducks at the duck pond all the time.
this is a pretty great idea!
This would work fine in a place without squirrels and possums and racoons! Say... inner city Sydney? Now if only we had trees... and birds.
