Break Ups: A Reason For Throwing Stuff Out

Break Ups: A Reason For Throwing Stuff Out

Breakups are painful enough without having to go through the added pain of wrestling over your mutual possessions. But if you're not living together, you're in the clear on this point, right? Maybe not. We have a friend who, in an attempt to wipe the slate clean of any memories, gets rid of everything from clothes to furniture, when she breaks up with someone.

Granted, this applies only to significant break ups but we were intrigued, especially when we read this comment from reader bepsf (we've only included the first part of his comments):

When the last ex left, I... Bought a new bed. Repainted/redecorated the apartment...

What about the rest of you? Do you toss stuff when you break up with someone? We slept on the couch for weeks after our last break up, until we saged the bed and the bedroom. (Incidentally, we'd purchased the bed from our friend after one of her bad breakups). Are there pieces of furniture that are challenging to live with because they remind you of someone?
