Well Labor Day is upon us which typically is a time for that last summer hoorah before the seasons change. What better way could there be to commend your hard work throughout the year than with a good relaxing morning time out.
As much as I love filling up my Labor Day Weekend with events full of friends and the summer sun, I also look to this weekend as a time to slow down and relax. I would love to begin my weekend with some quiet time, a lazy morning breakfast in bed, a cup of coconut green tea and a fabulous book.
Breakfast in bed can be tricky and definitely isn't everyone's idea of a good time, but when you've got a system down pat it's fantastic. As long as you have a stable tray and don't eat anything too crumby, complicated or messy it can be a wonderful way to wake up.
And for those of you who are not keen on eating in bed, don't let the term "bed tray" deter you from these versatile little stands. They can be used in various other places like the couch, the floor, or outdoors. And not just for food but for laptops, magazines, and books. Check out these fabulous finds in the world of trays.

Bed trays can be pretty trendy items. Wooden ones are nice.
I have a folding bamboo bed tray that is the handiest thing.... I use it as a laptop desk in bed mostly. But its also good for breakfast!
The red acrylic tray is much like the eric pfieffer for offi overlap tray (THAT I FINALLY MANAGED TO UNLOAD THROUGH CL, YESSSSS), but the Overlap Tray is much better designed in that the flat bit beyond the letter slot was wider and had this cork inlay that made it possible to put cups/pencils there without them all sliding off. I wonder what they expect ppl to do with the flat bit here? Balance erasers?
Purchased a bed tray about a year ago and LOVE IT!!!!! I keep it folded up next to the bed and find I use it about twice a week for various projects. It has a small drawer on the side so I can keep pens and paper for when I need them. It doesn't need to be expense. I bought mine on-line.
I've never really understood breakfast in bed. While I am blessed to have a husband who brings me my morning beverage in bed ever morning--mostly because he is one of those people who is up really early (i.e. 4 a.m.) every morning by nature (which just isn't right)--I prefer to have breakfast about an hour after I wake up and not in bed. That's just me.
I too do not understand any tray that doesn't have a lip of some sort to prevent things from rolling off. Crate and Barrel consistently has a few bed tray styles in stock (with lips), albeit none of them are design juggernauts. Standing trays can also be a pretty awesome baby shower gift -- great for mom during bed rest or the days after birth.
Most of those are just trays or really expensive. Here:

If you have a memory-foam mattress, your choice of practical bed trays is a lot larger than if you have a spring mattress and have to worry about things rolling off the tray. I have been known to just put drinks on a paperback book on my memory foam bed... and they don't budge. Its awesome.
@ladykatey is right--we love our tempurpedic mattress for exactly that reason!
