Post updated with new developments: Reader Marie sent us a mournful note alerting us to the fact that the Alameda Point Antiques and Collectibles Faire (known to devotees simply as "Alameda"—as in, "What time are you getting up for Alameda?") had been canceled, seemingly for good. The flea market website confirmed this, and then later the cancellation notice was gone. Now it looks as if the show will go on this Sunday after all, and hopefully will continue into the future...
The Antiques By the Bay website offers no details, comforting or damning or otherwise... Wednesday afternoon they simply posted a banner with the following statement:
Proceedings have been commenced for the voluntary dissolution of Antiques By The Bay, Inc. As a result the show scheduled for Nov 1, 2009 will not take place.
Then the banner was removed, and word among a few local blogs was that this Sunday's flea market would be happening after all.
UPDATE: This very informative article on The Island confirms that this Sunday's flea market will be happening. Evidently there is a legal dispute among the partners who run the Antiques By the Bay corporation, but the President of the company, Allen Michaan, confirms to The Island that the vendors will indeed be setting up at Alameda Point on Sunday morning.
I guess we'll be turning in early on Halloween after all, setting our alarms for Sunday at dawn and bundling up to go trolling for this month's deals... and we'll keep updating here as we learn new info!
In honor of our beloved flea market, here are a few posts from past Apartment Therapy trips to Alameda:

What?!
Where are you seeing that banner? The site looks completely normal to me and still has Nov & Dec listed as upcoming shows.
@harlie, that is so strange -- the banner was there earlier! Just saw that Anh-Minh wrote about it today too... I wonder if they only had the message up for one day! I'll continue to look into it and report back...

Okay, the word on a few blogs now is that this Sunday's flea market is BACK ON -- will update the post, but if anyone can enlighten us further, please do!

Please keep us posted! Hope the Bay Bridge is open by then!
Hear, hear on the Bay Bridge (I have a Halloween party to get to Saturday, but I have to admit: I LOVED my commute this morning--the bridge traffic that normally backs up onto the 580 was non-existant).
I really hope that at least this next Sunday's market will happen. I was waffling on going, but now I'll make an extra effort!
I hope it'll happen! I really want to go! I've never been before, I heard about it recently, and I've been looking forward to it...
NOOOOOOOOOO it can't shut down!!! But I'm assured by these comments, ahh!
A few blogs (sfgirlbybay is one) say that there's a feud or a legal dispute going on between the partners of Antiques by Bay, Inc.
I've only been to the Alameda Flea Market and that was a couple of months ago...and weirdly enough had a dream about it last night!
Indeed, it does seem there is some kind of dispute holding things up... but I spoke with someone at the company that promotes the flea market and they are working on it to try and make it happen on Sunday. I am waiting for confirmation and will update you all later on.

Official word from Antiques by the Bay when I just called this morning at 11:00AM - "It's closed as far as we're concerned." I'm very sorry to hear that as I've been looking forward to actually making it out there for as long as I can remember.
If anyone has news to contrary, keep us posted!
What a shame, it was so great last month, so many vendors and people my feet were aching from the walk but great finds to be had.
GOOD NEWS!! http://www.theislandofalameda.com/2009/10/your-weekend-the-show-must-go-on/
@sfsuperstar, thank you! That is so helpful, and indeed it looks like the flea market will go on... I will update this post and possibly post about this again later to keep everyone informed.
