- What I Love About My Small Home:
- I love the overall feel and how the rooms come together seamlessly. The dark masculine feel is comfortable and welcoming. The large main front window floods the walk-through space with natural light allowing it to feel open without being suffocating. Almost everything in our home was made myself, pre-used, grandfathered in or found save for a few items, which makes it very personal.
- Biggest Challenge of Living in a Small Space
- Stuff. So much stuff. I like things (possibly too many things. Let's just say it's close to being a curiosity shop) and I love different textures and features. Our family consists of myself, my guy, a dust mop of a dog and two cats. Making everything and everyone fit comfortably in 650 sq ft was like working a complex puzzle, it took quite a bit of time to fit the pieces together.

I don't know how to describe it...but I love the dark mystique of it!
I want to live in that bed.
I really love this.
squid ink black - really great atmosphere
Gorgeous! Love the picnic table:)
I love it, but I feel like it would be super dark in the long minnesota winters....
I really like this! Never thought I would like black walls but this comes together perfectly and it still feels cozy-with a touch of H.P. Lovecraft
Instant favourite!!
I always fantasized about using a picnic table indoors - thanks for demonstrating that it can look fabulous
I love the way you painted the kitchen cabinets. Looks smart!
Yes, yes that's how one incorporates a wall mount TV into an environment! One question.. what is the story on the dog portrait in the dining area?
this may be one of my favorite houses *ever*...love the dark walls, the harlequin paint, the picnic table, and the layered look...wonderful!
Duluth represent! It seems like the dark interior almost makes the light from the windows brighter- this is one of the more inspiring small spaces I've seen.
Favorited just for the Kracken Font art...
FAVORITE! Even a bit surprised done by a woman --very masculine-slightly feminine sexy! Love the mood...I AM taking some ideas! Great job
I think the artwork you selected is perfect for the room. Great composition!
Mark from Great Wall of Canvas
yeah, forgot to mention the kitchen cabinet doors update...never would have imagined how cool that looks on just regular old cabinets...can you please post pics of every single corner of this place?!
Looks like living in a movie set-- I really love this place!
Very, Very Cool. I think I would go crazy with all the dark... but... I am so drawn to this. So unique!
Annie.42~ We live right off Lake Superior so even in the winter under cloudy skies, we get plenty of light off of the lake..er ice. The dark interior is also incredibly cozy in our long winters ;)
TIFFANYSEATTLE~ Since this is a rental I didn't actually paint them, the black is leather look contact paper. With how easily contact paper is removed now without residue, it was a great choice to perk up very outdated orange wood cabinets!
NORAHL~ Thanks! The painting of the dog I did myself and it is of our dustmop/Pomeranian. We have his food dish and container there, so I made it personal for him.
MINNASAUR~ It actually does. When the walls were white the window just got washed out and disappeared (it is so bright being right on the lake!). The light now seems to hit everything and the room itself feels so much larger.
LCA~ It was so difficult choosing the pics I was going to use! Every corner is filled with random curiosities and is so much fun to explore.
We are kind of on the nerdy side of the spectrum, LOVE the Kraken/Cthulhu. We also have a few references to Game of Thrones, TMNT, and Snow White amongst others. Keeping everything on the neutral side makes it all work nerdly awesome.
Thanks for the fantastic comments everyone! I wish you could all come over and enjoy it with us! Oh, and sorry for the upside down horribly drawn layout..
Looks so appropriate for MN..cozy. Also like the way the big harlequin pattern balances our your "stuff".
Where is the bedding from?
This is an outstanding space! The colors are fantastic. I'm certain that it will stick in my mind for weeks to come. Thank you for sharing!
Definitely needs a house tour ... please!!
I love this place. I LOVE this place! "Dark and masculine"? 'nuff said! I love it!
Absolutely love this! Please can we have a full house tour? It's dark and cosy and every room is a place where I'd really love to hunker down - especially that bed!
Weird and cool at the same time!
Dark and moody
If this was a man I'd hunt him down and marry him.
Outstanding-I'd love to see a house tour.
Love the space! Then I saw this is in Duluth, where I live!
Where do you find such great stuff here?
DEARAMELIA~ The grey cover, sheets and pillow cases are from Target. The cover we got on clearance a while back however. The throw was a gift and I am not sure where it was purchased from. Sorry!
ANNE PCK~ Ha. I totally take that "weird" as a great compliment. Cool weird is a great standard ;)
I will submit pics for a tour within the next couple of days. Thanks again everyone for all the love!
The cabinet innovation - genius! Love the dark walls as well. Made me rethink my own white space for a bit even though I love my white space. Nicely done!
maybe a little cluttered, but a great sense of color!
Love how atmospheric this is! Totally agree with those who said it's like a movie set.

A place for everything and everything in its place ..passionately done.
Love this place. Moody, haunting, yet cozy. Black walls are awesome.
House Tour pleaseeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
My only complaint is could the layout picture be flipped so you can actually read the text?
I have to downsize and move and I am keeping your tour bookmarked for inspiration. I want my next place to look like your place - please don't mind if I steal a lot of it.
not my style, but very well executed!!!
