Young, single, wishing you could afford designer digs but making do with what you’ve got? We’ve all been there. 25 year old Brett moved into his first “real” apartment a little over 2 years ago and has since been collecting, thrifting and honing his design prowess on his little outdated Los Feliz apartment. From the moment you walk in you are surrounded by Brett’s personality – little treasures that tell a story about the kind of dude Brett is. Yes, he knows the difference between mid century modern and hollywood regency style and isn’t afraid to mix the two. He appreciates street art and has a nostalgia for Alf.
Brett admits he is working with a “hard core” budget, yet you can tell each piece in his apartment was carefully picked out – from his vintage French lady couch pillows, to his unique bonsai tree creation. He says he probably could have bought everything new with all the money he spent on gas - traveling to and from swap meets and flea markets… but what would have the fun in that?!
Thanks Brett

Nomade Express Slee...
Lose the gargantuan bean bag and this is pretty fantastic!
Love the eclectic style. Where did you find that awesome planter for the Bonsai tree?
I'm where Brett is at the two years ago part. 23, first apartment and on my own in L.A. I hope my place comes together as nicely as yours does. Is the bean bag your bed? I'm curious to what the square footage is. Also.. I dig the london police piece.
yes, the blue blob is an eyesore...but you've obviously never laid in a sumo! they're rediculously comfortable and fun!
Would love to know where the sofa is from.
Okay, let me try and explain...
First, hahahahaha -- no the bean bag is not my bed. However, sometimes my buddies stumble home from the bars and pass out on it. Other times I drag it in front of the TV to watch movies bc it's much more comfortable than laying out across the Room & Board sofa.
It's a 1bd/1bth, but I'm not sure on the square footage. I'd guess 750-800 sq ft.
The planter is from Hip Haven.
@ladymantle and ellejaydub: I don't think you're wrong at all. At risk of sounding defensive of my own place, I do think the angle of the shot makes it look worse than it is, mostly because you can't see the space to the right of it. Kinda makes it look like the bean bag is on top of the end table and the unico chaise. I should have staged it better. It's usually spaced a little further apart from everything and the arc lamp usually hangs over the chaise.
Alison did a fantastic job! I don't know if it was because of the lighting or AT editors don't think I'm as cool as I think I am, but some things I really like about my place were left out. Here a link to some flickr photos. I humbly apologize for the narcissism and quality of these photos:

Again, thanks for posting a tour with wall to wall carpet. I love hardwood floors, but won't be getting them anytime soon. So I appreciate seeing the Renter's W2W in action! :)
lovesac or sumo or whatever YAY. I don't care what if anything it says about my taste level I will keep my pillowsac foreveeeeeeer.
Also I like the b&w art by the console. :)
Wish I had room in my place for a sumo!
Yeah I saw that beanbag and thought "oh that looks so comfy!" <3
I like the black and white print to the left of the console. Do you mind sharing where that is from? Thanks
It's by The London Police

I went to look at your flickr, and yeah, the HC makes your place look tiny when it's not really that small, and the sac isn't actually eating your living room. Thanks for the link to the London Police! :D
Great place! You have a wonderful eye.
Brilliant. I love seeing people reusing and recycling items in their homes. Mixing styles, making it work, and just getting on with your life is the real art of creating a home.
better than any bachelor pad i've ever been too...
great pieces! it's apparent he has a great eye + style.
would love to hear more about the artwork. heading over to check out the flickr stream!
something about the way the art is hung over the credenza is off to me though. having my own AT tour, i know that the pictures don't always look like how it appears in person though.
Cool place. And you have a Roomba. My dad think that this was the greatest gift that I ever gave him.
Brett, totally Love your place!
Favourite pic from looking at flickr photos got to be Jay Adams pic with other comedy collections:)
Also nice to see Dogtown poster.
GOOD STUFF!

Fabulous
I love the fact that this place is brash and yet stylish. That's very difficult to achieve!
Nice place, but the beanbag has to go! Good job on hanging all that art without ending up with a cluttered look.
the art looks amazing!
I think this place is fantastic!
like the pictures but not the way they're hung..too haphazard..
I love the color pallette.
Hey Brett,
I have that same Lane dovetail coffee table in my living room. Gorgeous! Hold on to that one!
Great place! I totally want to try out that huge bean bag!
