Name: Brian
Location: NYC
My partner and I recently moved into a new rental apartment. As a newly unemployed Interior Designer I have had a lot of time to work on it. The apartment is on the 28th floor of a modern building in downtown Manhattan. It's a bit over 800 square feet and filled with light.
I kept the space white with pops of color all around. We had a lot or existing mid-century furniture from our old place. I contrasted the modern lines of the space with a old round wood table I found on Craigslist. We have lots of accessories that I placed along side the window sills. The hallway and entry is filled with art. In the bedroom we had the option of putting up a wall but we chose to separate the space using an IKEA bookcase in order to let light into the hall. Lots of DIY went into the apartment - I upholstered the back of the bookcase on the bedroom side to soften it. Using the same canvas as the bookcase I tacked some fabric behind the bed to make a headboard.
Thanks, Brian!

love that hair painting! fantastic colors.
super cute! i love pure, mod, rainbow colors
What a great way to separate the bedroom! It keeps it light, but defines the space and provides privacy. Love the simply DIY headboard... Love the whole place, actually.... The hair painting, chairs and lamp are amazing.
You live in my building! That has to be 200 Water, right?
Also I'm really jealous that you have a corner unit.
glad to see i'm not the only one that organizes my books by color!
This is fantastic - so happy, so poppy, so alive. I've been curmudgeonly in the past about books organized by color, but it looks absolutely right in your place.
Lovely-- colorful yet simple!
house tour, please!
Umm Brian, Can I come and get a personal tour?! Your new place looks great! Hope you are well~ Heather J @ JJA
Hey Brian,
You are truly working your magic, and we just love it! Enjoy every bit of that space, and hopefully we will see it soon! By the way, did I notice a picture of my grandfather on the wall????
I really liked every photo. I like the composition of each photo and all of the items in the photos. The popping colors were very well done. The different bright colors seemed to balance one another well against the white background and bright light from the windows. The scale of all the furniture and accessories was also well balanced. I think I would enjoy spending time in this apartment very much.
Great collection of chairs! Do you (or does anyone) know who the metal chair on the left in the 1st picture is by? I have the exact same chair and have been trying to find out who designed it. It looks very similar to one by Tony Paul but I haven't been able to locate any info. Thanks!
I love it. We also have white walls and are adding pops of color, your place is fantastic inspiration.
Great job Brian! There are so many wonderful things going on here but I have to tell you my favorite is your headboard. I love simple, elegantly draped fabric anywhere. Mazel Tov!!!
Brian, I love it! Are you doing any freelance work?
nice, but that big white lamp is not too nice
Your space Show that you don`t have to have money to have style. I to am an interior designer in Nashville TN. Hearthstone Interior Design,
Brian: I love everything about your apartment. All your furnishings, accessories, and color choices are fantastic.
BUT, and don't hate me, I have a problem with your fabric headboard. I like simple, but it looks unfinished and the color blends in too much with your bedding and the wall color. I can, however, see that BEAUTIFUL wall hanging next to the bed used as a head board:)
Terrific apartment- wonderful use of colour- thanks for sharing -i'd love to see more of it. However, I tend to agree with Joy (above). What's with the piece of fabric headboard thingy? It seems to be coming off the wall/stuck on with thumb tacks and as though it is hiding something quite sinister! I am all for invention and making do with the things we already have but it doesn't seem to fit with all the other beautiful things in the apartment and with the room itself.
Actually, Brian, I came upon this fabric upholstered headboard that you could make yourself. I don't like the tufted part, but the color!! The grey would match the pillow on your bed:) That or your beautiful wall hanging(lol)
