Bright Idea: Using Doorstops For Legs

Every once in awhile you come across an idea that stops you dead in your tracks and has you saying, "Well why didn't I think of that." Click through for a closeup of this great IKEA hack utilizing doorstops as legs.

The door stoppers are aluminium with rubber-tips that are fixed to the bottom of a Lack wall shelf. It's the perfect height to raise a tv and keep the top of your entertainment center clean and sleek while still keeping your DVD player on display.

It took me looking at the close up to realize exactly what they were talking about and I agree, perfect for slipping the DVD player etc directly under the TV and I like the idea in fact, sadly, not gonna work in my particular situation in the living room for I want to try and move my turntable to the media center and hang the tv a few inches above it to consolidate things a bit more.

Althouth I did something similar with a set of IKEA chrome legs that are what 3.5" or so in height that are affixed to a brown/black shelf that matches my desktop (all from IKEA) that my computer monitor now sits on and thus allows me to slip the adding machine, the stapler and tape dispenser etc under it.

I was planning to do that with my nightstands (replace existing legs). Doorstops come in a variety of styles and finishes, so I selected these: http://hardware.hardwarestore.com/73-463-baseboard-bumpers/aluminum-rigid-door-stop-613560.aspx for a Mid-Century modern look.

That IS a very clever idea. I'm going to file this away for future reference.

Nice hack, but I'd be worried there's not enough clearance there above the equipment to provide adequate ventilation. I'd probably go with short stubby furniture legs, which are also available from IKEA and could provide an inch or two more of clearance.

These look great! Lack and Expedit - a match made in heaven, or at least in an Ikea showroom *grin* (Same thing, isn't it?) Love the gorgeous clean lines, the splashes of red, that orange set of vases, the storage, and that stunning globe!

topia7 what speakers are you using? I have large speakers and need to down size just hate to get rid of things that work well..just look bad.

LoriSF: All the equipment is Panasonic. I hate the look of speakers as well, would much prefer something that disappeared more.

We are using a modified Ikea shoe rack to store our tv tech.

That is cool now that's thinking out of the box!
