Storage is a huge priority in a lot of homes and the wonderful thing about it is that it comes in many different shapes, sizes and colors! I love wall shelving, bookcases, storage bins — and well, just about any type of storage. Jazz it up with colors and I love it even more.
A lot of us have bought shelving from IKEA or found really awesome vintage pieces that either we don't want to (or can't) paint, so a really great way to brighten up the storage space is to paint behind it. Paint a wall a fun, bright color and then hang white shelves so that they really pop and draw attention.
If you need some storage in your bathroom or laundry room, paint an old outdated piece of wood furniture a fun color and you've got yourself brightly colored storage. It's really quite amazing what a little color can do!

Shaw's Original Fir...
Good post. Neutrals alone can seem sterile and cold, even inhospitable and gloomy. I feel that color in a home is important, a little like oxygen in the air.
I have the yellow chest (from Ikea)-- it's filled with all of my white dishes and platters. I absolutely love it, though it was a pain to assemble.
I LOVE that red room. What a fresh way to show off your photographs and books!
This has nothing to do with shelves but the pendant light in the photo with white shelves and yellow wall....Anyone have any idea how one could make that? or where to find something similar? Thanks!
The pendant light is from Ikea.
