I lived through the transition from typewriters, to the brief era of the word processor, and finally to the era of the computer keyboard. Call me nostalgic, but I still find the sound of an old fashioned mechanical typewriter as pleasant as the sound of raindrops. There's now an OS X app to add this sound of yesteryear's to every keystroke...
Noisy Typer is a free piece of software which plays typewriter sounds as you type. It runs in the background and works with all applications ( email, web, word etc ). Key sounds include: letter keys, spacebar, backspace, carriage return and scroll up and down.
I know I'm probably imagining it, but I swear my typing accuracy improved once I heard the sound of a typewriter rather than the usual tic-tacking of the Apple chiclet style wireless keyboard. It could have been I'm simply just having fun hearing the sound, adding a little fun to a mundane everyday task.

How does one install this software? I unzipped it and I get a bunch of meaningless (at least to me) folders.
@SPINSLPS, I had the same problem because I downloaded it from this page. Go to this page: http://fffff.at/noisy-typer-a-typewriter-for-your-laptop/ and download it from there. (I downloaded into my app folder.) Then unzip, open the unzipped folder and read the file called "_ReadMe_Seriously.rtfd" and follow directions. It's really easy. Mine works now.
(BTW, there used to be an app like this in the olden days called Tappy Type, but it stopped working when OS X came out.)
Alternatively, just get a loud keyboard. I rock a Das Keyboard and it's less than quiet.
Thanks lorelski, for the correct link. I had to restart my MacBook Pro, then double click on the app's icon in Finder, and now it works. I love it. I learned to type on a manual Remington and didn't realize how I missed the sounds.
