Nomade Express Slee...
Love the look of vintage (w/patina) brass... so much more appealing, to my eye, than the newer, shiny, lacquered stuff.
Great! I still have my three solid brass owls set. And a fawl, and...
this exact post was on interior decline last week - twice!

nope. still don't like brass.
Like the appropriately named rustypatina, I don't care for shiny new brass, but love the look of old pieces with that beautiful patina.
Heh. Husband just convinced me to buy new door hardware for all doors in antique brass. I indulged him. Now I realize he's just cutting edge! I have been feeling weary of brushed anything, lately, so this is a good thing.
LOL Suzee, my husband wanted to change out the hardware in our house from the original 50's MCM solid brass to new stainless steel, and I resisted because, as I said, "brass is coming back around". And it is - there's even a big spread in Dwell this month too showing a kitchen with a solid brass vent hood. Neener neener Mr. Parnassus! :P
As far as I'm concerned, brass is and always will be beautiful.
For nice old brass, check auction houses and eBay - it can be had cheaply. My dad was unloading a bunch of antiques at auction, and the appraiser said the bottom dropped out of the brass market - they can't even sell it by the pound. Anything Asian, on the other hand, is hothothot - until the recession gets to China....
I'm a big fain. We have brass curtis jere birds hanging on our fireplace (http://www.lifeonchurchill.com/2012/02/fresh-paint.html) agree with rustypatina that the old brass is best!
So nice to see a metal that is not being painted over.
Never been a fan, never will, not sure why as I generally love metal in any form/finish. I do have a few inherited pieces, all with a rich patina which lends a bit of character. I tolerate it only for the sentimental value; it's worth the memories.. I find polished brass just plain tacky although I did polish up a couple & gift them to my dd who prefers the look. As for me, my trigger finger is itchin to give the rest a spray of orb or some unexpected bright color and bring them to life. I just can't bring myself to touch them.
I never left brass behind! It reminds me of my mom. She had several decorative pieces like a pair of round birds sitting on the coffee table or bookshelf. Home Interiors I think. She had some other seriously questionable pieces but the brass was wonderful!
I've never much cared for brass, even when it was super-super trendy. But I like it better in authentic vintage pieces.
There is nothing new! Everything comes back! We had a brass bed but it was a double and when we got a queen sized bed, we moved it into the spare room. Unfortunately the spare room is very tiny and we decided that it really couldn't accommodate a double bed, so we gave it to a friend. I'll have to tell her that it's now back in style!
I have a vintage brass piece that a friend's mom gave me years ago because I liked it so much. It's a flower and each of the leaves are individual ash trays. Gross, right? But it's beautiful and interesting! I love my vintage brass!
I love vintage brass! I hated it until I realized there's more to brass than the hideous, shiny, cheap doorknobs of the 80s.
I have a gorgeous ginger jar shaped vintage brass table lamp on a walnut base. Patina is gorgeous. It's in our chocolate brown & cream living room, with a taller & shinier vintage Steifel brass table lamp. Both found at Goodwill, of course. Deep red leather furniture, with some apple green pillow & throw accents. The warmth of the brass is sooo yummy!
I have a trinket box that I bought back in my college years (many many years ago) and it's still one of my favorite pieces.
