We've recently spotted quite a few pieces of "living" furniture on the blogosphere. Sure, it may not be for the allergy prone, but it's easy to grow, durable and cheerful. What do you think about growing grass indoors as a design element?

Sprout Side Table
Huh... it's like the inverse of this installation I saw on Governor's Island last summer:

In a pot - Sure, why not?
But on a lampshade, in the welcome mat or as a chairseat?
Better bring the OxyClean...
And I used to get picked on for planting grass in various pots for my patio...
But until they come up with a grass toilet seat I think I will pass on these... except perhaps the second one.
We just bought a pot of grass (the droopy kind that might be used in a border, not the short, stiff kind you might use in a lawn) and our cat is in heaven. He's stopped eating house plants now that he has grass to eat... plus the grass looks pretty cool.
Interesting ideas. I have a question though, what about grass on a patio or terrace? What kind of grass would grow best and how much soil would it need above the concrete? What about drainage? Any ideas?
In what world is any of this "easy to grow"? In particular, how would one water that lampshade? These are living plants and they are not going to stay static and perfect-looking forever.
