When I received an e-mail from a friend suggesting I check out the design of an acupuncture clinic, I'll admit, I didn't have high expectations to find great design in a medical office. However, I was completely blown away when I saw for myself just how every piece was thoughtfully chosen and well balanced within the entire space. As I sat in the waiting room I felt like I was sitting in someone's living room enjoying an intimate conversation.

The owner of Poke Acupuncture, Russell Brown, tells us that the design reflects his personal style. When he opened the clinic he didn't want to pretend that he was the typical acupuncturist. Instead, he wanted to create a space where people could visit, feel comfortable, and appreciate the creativity of the surroundings and the art of acupuncture.

Wow. (House) tour and interview, please!
Yes... (house) tour and interview, please! Given how cool "Poke" looks, I can only imagine how inspiring his personal space must be.
@sunan, I promise not to make a poke joke.
Wow! Really cool space. A little victorian.
OH my goodness handsome handsome! I do love me a good beard.
oh yea, um, I love the house as well :)
OK horny women...let's talk about the office now. Very unusual combination of items put together. It's too busy for my taste in an office. Considering it's acupuncture, I would have expected a more serene and tranquil space.
@hooksies, I promise not to make a beard joke.
no this is not right as an acupuncture office. it's great as a shop or a design office but for subtle energy work? this is all about him on display there is no room for a patients energy.
the serene and tranquil feeling comes from the cool air and the dark lighting. it would be absolutely boring and cliche if he had a boring white office with fake "asian" inspired wall art and trinkets. Generic is boring. This office gives you a sense of who is treating you for your pain, and lets you feel at home. Not like a stranger.
I agree w/bethanynauert
I apprehensively went to see Russ on a friends recommendation. I am not your typical accu-yoga-vegan person. I had lower back pain and was going through a very stressful patch and I was tapped out. I had expected the worst and I could not have been more wrong. Russ has an amazing presence and a true gift in healing. One session I was so run down, I was laying on his table with needles all over, a compression thingy over my eyes and when he started speaking I felt so comfortable and safe that a goddamn tear ran down my cheek. Corny? Yes. True? Yes. Bottom line-He is the real deal. A great guy with a gift to heal. He helped me become more centered and helped rid me of my lower back pain. As far as the decor goes-It's fantastic. It is so refreshing and unique just like Russ. I would rather zone out in his creative waiting room than to hear the annoying buzzing from the motor of a tacky water feature in an "asian inspired via office depot" space.
wow, this is amazing!!
totally inspiring.
Im also a patient at Poke. Its true theres a lot going on in the waiting area but it still manages to be pretty peaceful. And the treatment rooms, where the acupuncture actually takes place, are simple warm wood walls, soft linens and just a few landscape photos. I couldnt feel more relaxed there. Russell is great.
I am also a client here and it is the most amazing and comfortable place I have ever been. When I'm on the acupuncture table it's so relaxing I feel like I could stay there all day. And Russell is an amazing person who really does know what he is doing. He's not just going through the motions to make a buck. He listens and he cures. And he cares.
Also, seriously, "Generic is Boring".
I am selling the matching beige Victorian Parlor chair in the picture. If anyone is interested, please let me know.
this is the best design I have EVER seen for an acupuncture practice.....I will be "purloining" some of the extraordinary (don't even know where to begin) concepts.....peace to you and keep it going....you're all lit up!
Complete Tour, Please.
i see a house tour in the very near future. please.
DUDE! Are you kidding me? Hell yeah I'd go there - I too forgot what I was going to write when I saw his pic. Talk about total package :D
Umm. WOW. Why oh why can't this be in the Bay Area?!!! I want to be poked here!!
I appreciate a waiting room that is creative and has a lot going on. It keeps the wait interesting imo. The treatment room looks very warm and calming.
I'm with deepfried I want this in San Francisco. I'm thinking of going to LA for my acupuncture. I love everything about the Acupuncture Office and his (thier?) home. Total comfortable style. I love the whole package.
As a patient of Poke and Russ's magical touch, I can attest that the space lends to a comforting and warm experience. And my tennis elbow thanks him for it everyday! So very proud of you, Russ!
