This is the time when we start readying holiday cards and postage, becoming particularly picky about which stamps to use with specific cards for specific personalities. Choosing the right stamp for the right card is a must when it comes to stationery. So we were in utter awe when we saw these postage stamps those lucky blokes and birds over the pond will soon be able to use upon their envelopes, printed with the legendary album designs from the likes of New Order, Blur, Bowie, the Stones…uh…and…uh…Coldplay?
The stamp set includes:
- Blur - Parklife
- New Order - Power, Corruption and Lies
- Led Zeppelin - IV
- Primal Scream - Screamadelica
- Rolling Stones - Let it Bleed
- David Bowie - The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
- The Clash - London Calling
- Mike Oldfield - Tubular Bells
- Pink Floyd - The Division Bell
- Coldplay - A Rush Of Blood To The Head
The Royal Mail will offer these set of ten 1st class stamps designed by Studio Dempsey to celebrate classic British album covers in 2010. We suspect Anglophiles/Brit pop nerds everywhere will want several sets of these (we know we do). But we wonder why the Beatles nor The Smiths made the cut. And will the United States Postal Service step up and follow suit with an All-American collection? We hope so!

White Enamel Four-P...
If the USPS was smart they would do the same. Its not like they couldn't use the extra income.
If only I could buy an entire sheet of "Parklife" stamps. That album was so important to me.
The Beatles probably did not make the cut because they were honored with their own stamp set in 2007. I managed to get hold of the First Day Cover in Canada when the Royal Mail had sold out their entire offering.
I'm not a 'stamp collector', but have collected a few of the Belgium Post, USPS and Royal Mail's offering to use as art.
Here is a picture of the Beatles stamps.

And here's another of my favorites titled design classics

Smiths & Beatles could've been copyright holders not agreeing to or making it too difficult or expensive for Royal Mail to use the images... Tragic omission.
Well, the Smiths did famously have an album titled "The Queen Is Dead", and Morrissey is well known for openly criticizing the Royal family and Parliament et al. I don't think Her Maj would have wanted anything to do with him being associated with the Royal Mail.
So, America! Here's looking at you, kids ...
Also, I personally think that Depeche Mode is a dire omission! I think a brilliant 30 year career is well worth some postal acknowledgment.
Have there been no female musicians in British music history that are worthy of such an honor? Not one?
"Choosing the right stamp for the right card is a must when it comes to stationery."
If you have oodles of free time and nothing better to do. Most normal people don't look at the stamps, nor do they obsess over the stamps. Why must this site do the same?
FantasticMrFaux: I think it's pretty common for people to notice stamps during the holidays, at least in my family and circle of friends. And I think it's great people do care and make the effort, as it's a special time of the year to go beyond the norm in spirit and action. I really don't think it takes all that much time and people do appreciate the small things in life. At least I do.
