Color Inspiration: This might not be a popular way to plan color, but I love themed rooms. Even if nobody else knows what the theme is, I still use it to guide my color and and accessory choices. For this dining room, the theme is 70s Garden Party. These colors made it possible for our family antiques, mid-century pieces, art from friends, and Oregon collection (in the built-in cabinet) to live together.

Ercol Bar Stool
Absolutely lovely. I love the combination of the beautiful wood tones with the greens.
Just love this room! It is the perfect merger of traditional and modern!
The colors used in this room are great, they really show off the wonderful natural light.
love the sagey green. it is very refreshing. reminds me of the kitchen of a grade school mate. even the linoleum was in this color.
Although I don't love these colors personally, I think this is really well done. Good concept and great execution!
this is breathtaking, I love the green, the white trim, the woodfloors, the antiques, it all just works together.
I'm thinking of a creamy avocado dip...mmm...
these are not my usual colors but... damn I just love this. Great job. Really clean.
This is beautiful. I really love the needlework art. What does it say?
Thanks for all of the nice comments. We're finally getting the house to feel like home, after living in it for a year and a half.
KidMoe--Yesss. I wish I could change the title of our room to creamy avocado dip. That is exactly what color it is.
applesnkids--Thank you, but it isn't needlework. It is actually cut paper words that say, "hooray michael and brittany, congratulations, love tae and koi." A friend cut the words out for our recent wedding and put them in our card. I couldn't bear to just file them away, so I thought we'd display them for a while.
great colors ... very relaxing
Absolutely beautiful. This room is so relaxing and inviting!
Unusual and beautifully executed!
Green is very soothing. Looks like you can really unwind in this home!
Beautiful room(s)! I'm not seeing the "70s" aspect, though. More like 40-50s.
I'm really sorry don't arrive at time. I absolutly love this space, it's calm, creative and entertainment at the same time.
I'll choise each one of the decorating object form my own home.
This is just really pretty. Very well done.
I was too late to vote but I love the use of color and the flow of color to the next room. Thank you for sharing your space.
Green is my favorite color and it is a hard color to pull of in design I think. They did such a good job of balancing it and there are some really nice peices too
This is absolutely gorgeous. Everything works together is perfect melody!
Where are the curtains in the dining room from.....I love them!
Your lamp is perfect for the space - where did you get it?
Very well done!
Hey--I've got answers:
rgn--The curtains are actually a duvet cover I got on sale at Anthropologie last year, hacked up, and sewed back together as curtains. I couldn't find other fabric that was cheap enough, big enough, and such great colors.
robink--I'm guessing you're talking about the little table lamp. My husband found it at a thrift store (it has a chrome tulip base) and I got the shade at Lamps Plus.
Thanks!
i really love your place! this is a refreshing palette, i dont see this color often. it's colorful but not over-the-top. this one shows a real understanding of color.
Soothing and very, very clean. Mint / sage gets such a bad rap in design world. I would just like to suggest possibly adding a deep emerald element in way of an accessory or even a broad-leafed plant to pull even more of the garden party vibe.
