Name: Brooke
Location: Salt Lake City, Utah
My husband and I are newlyweds of 7 months and had very little money AND very little space to work with in our new one-bedroom, 500 square feet apartment.

We love design and have fun decorating, but our minimal budget caused us to get creative with our home. So now we can proudly say everything in our home was made by us (David made 4 pieces of furniture), purchased second-hand (online or at thrift stores) or purchased very inexpensively using our wedding money.
Thanks, Brooke!

Wow, that mustard color couch is incredible! Love it so much!!
I love your couch!
Good job!
Please tell us what you did for your headboard?
Nice work! I love your bedroom. Everything looks bright and cheerful.
i love the bar cart.
Beautiful. Nice architecture, great colors. Simple. Lived in.
That sofa! That rug! That headboard! Budget schmudget. You did an amazing job.
Your apartment is lovely!
Love the sofa!
I love what you have done.
Lovely!
I love this- you make 500 square feet and a tight budget look great.
A very good starting point and you certainly display a talent for decorating. I heve two suggestions for you: Curate the living room furniture and push it away from the walls. It feels too busy and waiting roomish.
Is that a vintage sofa? Did you have it reupholstered or did you luck out and find it that way? It's great - such strong lines! Even when you start earning more money, I bet you'll hang onto it.
Looks like a million! Love.
You're so good without a big budget . . . never have a big budget! Your creativity will win out every time. Congratulations!
I love the kitchen.
What a sweet idea - homemade newlywed! And you have expressed it simply and beautifully!
Love how bright and open it feels.
I love all the vintage pieces!
I love it!!! it looks so grown up!!! I'm 43 years old and I can still not achieve that....
A great example that good taste cannot be bought! That being said, would you ever consider selling the painting to the corner of your sofa? I'm in love with it and would love to see if selling is an option for you. Please email me at domesticnerd7645@gmail.com.
thank you all for your comments! i just discovered through a friend that our apt was featured - i had no idea! you can see more details of our apt on our blog here:

the painting is pretty great and i bought it for $5 at a thrift store! i have no idea the background on it. im so flattered by your offer but i dont think i'm ready to part with it right now. feel free to email me and i'll keep it in mind though! brooke.k.kunz@gmail.com
haha well 43 leaves plenty of years to get it right! we are 25 and 26...i guess we have mature taste ;-)
thanks! the lighting and all of the windows are definitely what drew us to the place.
thanks! so nice of you. we bought it for $100 second-hand on ksl.com. the deets are over here: https://brookekkunz.wordpress.com/2013/02/27/a-newlywed-home/
im so flattered! we bought pine planks at lowes and my husband secured them all to two long verticle beams... we sanded and distressed the wood by throwing hammers and rocks at it. then we used a stain called "sunbleached" and then a final layer of white wash with 1 part white paint, 5 parts water. we'll have to do a tutorial sometime on the blog: https://brookekkunz.wordpress.com/2013/02/27/a-newlywed-home/
thanks! so much! it was a lucky find at a thrift store that i painted white.. https://brookekkunz.wordpress.com/2013/02/27/a-newlywed-home/
i appreciate the feedback - we pushed the furniture up against the walls simply out of necessity. the room really is so small even though it doesnt appear that way in the picture. the extra chairs are there for when guests come for dinner and we have to use my husband's desk as our dining table, ha. definitely not the ideal way to have it set up, but it's practical for what we're working with. maybe when we have a few more square feet! :-) https://brookekkunz.wordpress.com/2013/02/27/a-newlywed-home/
yes it's vintage and we didn't do a thing to it! very very lucky find. we were going to buy one from macys.com that had a modern look, but im sure this one is made better - and we bought it for $100 on a classified site, ksl.com.
aw thanks so much! https://brookekkunz.wordpress.com/2013/02/27/a-newlywed-home/
haha we just hope we have a big budget - to put toward out kid's education and TRAVEL! but yes we hope we always keep our decor budget small :-) https://brookekkunz.wordpress.com/2013/02/27/a-newlywed-home/
