Name: "Squash" and "The Dude" (Ages 3 and 1)
Location: San Francisco, CA - Sunset Neighborhood
I really appreciated seeing the shared spaces here on Apartment Therapy as I prepared to move my little dude from his crib nook in our bedroom to a shared space with his big sister. It is a small space, and I wanted things to be restful but happy.
I also wanted to be able to save room for them to play together. I wanted there to be both little girl and little boy elements but still feel fairly gender neutral. I started with a great fabric print from Birch Organics that had the colors I loved and put the rest together from art that we already had in other rooms. My city roomies have fun, and there has even been some solid napping as well in there.
- Paint: Benjamin Moore "Lake Placid"
- Fabric for Duvet: Birch Organic's "Commute"
- Paper Bloom: purchased at Casa Bonampak
- Pantone Postcards and Mobile: Found at the MOMA SF giftshop and put it together on the train ride home
Thanks, Luna!

Great use of color!
aww... that is very sweet indeed...
Very sweet space. Nice that it doesn't any obvious dangers.
Cute! As a fellow SF mom, I love seeing kids' spaces in our often small homes/apartments.
that pantone mobile is great
What a sweet little room. I absolutely love the colours, especially on the wall. I was wondering if you might share where you got that shelf. It's hard to find shelves that can fit right next to each other without a gap. I'm hoping you won't say IKEA, as their shipping costs are outrageous.
beautifully done!
Very cute room. When my parents were starting out with three kids and not so much money, I shared a perfectly ugly room with my two little brothers. We had a blast. I certainly wanted (and got, thank heavens) my own space when I was older, but I wouldn't have missed being a little kid sharing a room. We still talk about some of the laughs we had.
I don't have fond memories of sharing a room with my sister. But I am overjoyed to hear the laughter and sharing of toys and books when we close the door to say good night to our kids. It's an unwritten rule that they are allowed to hang out with each other for about 15 minutes, after which without our prompting (most of the time) they just go to their respective beds and konk out.
It's great that you didn't move the baby in right away. This way the older sibling has gotten used to baby and now she can welcome him into her room.
So sweet! I always worry about this & yesterday my husband actually said, "how could we ever fit 2 kids in here?" (in reference to our small spare room). Umm not like we even have 1 yet or anything, but we are planners. It seems in this whole DIY/home design blog world people forget that two kids can share a tiny room and live to tell the tale (me being one of them and there was NO closet). Would love to see a shot of the clothing storage.
Good to hear positive feedback from fellow small spacers. I'd love to fit a third in that nursery...but that will be a completely different story. @cherub -The shelf is from Land of Nod (cube collection) and they have periodic specials on shipping. If you can handle a wee bit more spam in your inbox (It makes me feel loved actually) joining their list alerts you to such magical sale type things. Then you can unsubscribe, beating the system!
Thanks, Luna! I just checked back in today because I thought I found the shelf at Land of Nod yesterday and wanted to confirm that it was the same one! Thank you for the tip, I will sign up for their emails/ spam from my junk email address!
