Name: Bryson (1)
Location: Boone, NC
I couldn't wait to outfit a room for Bryson — for the first six months of his life we were in a small apartment and he had to sleep in a Pack & Play in the master bedroom. When we moved, we purchased a crib for him and began to decorate his room. However, our new (older) house isn't spacious, so Bryson's room needed to double as our guestroom. Inspired by Ashley Ann Campbell's reading bed creation, we used what we had (a full mattress and box spring) to create a simpler version, full of cozy pillows. Bryson and his two-year-old brother Elijah love reading (and wrestling!) there, and it can be easily transformed into a guest bed when necessary.
Our budget was tight all-around, so most of the room's furnishings were purchased secondhand or repurposed from our own belongings. The artwork above the changing table was actually done by students of mine — I bid on and won it at a fundraiser auction. Over the reading bed is a canvas (an old college painting of mine actually!) covered in fabric from IKEA. I made the matching pillow as well.
The other piece of art over the reading bed was inspired by Ohdeedoh, as was much of the room's décor and style. I took Charley Harper Memory game cards we'd been given as a gift and framed them (inspired by those in Zoey's room). I love the finished product and how well it goes with the rest of the room! Most of the room's accessories were gifts, my favorites being the handmade elephants and baby shoes (pictured in the shadowbox on the wall above the crib) that my sister Emily sewed from upcycled family fabrics.
As for colors, I wanted gray walls and my husband wanted blue, so we agreed on "Peaceful" by Valspar. The overall color scheme is intended to be blue-gray and leaf green accented with lots of bright colors. We're very pleased with the cheerful result!
