Here is a DIY cord control solution. Our local paper recently highlighted an idea by Real Simple to use a bucket to store extension cords. The idea is to, just as a sailor or cowboy might, coil up the rope and place it in the bucket for easy, untangled storage.
We think this could be a simple and inexpensive way to hide and organize cords in your home. With an attractive container and a little bit of work you could create your own storage device.
We took this a step further and found this great little tutorial on how to store the cords in the bucket, but with a hole drilled for easy extension.
If anyone decides to try this, we'd love to see it. Send us pics via e-mail or join our Flickr Group.

We store all of our unused cords in Philippe Stark's Prince Aha Stool. Both the top and bottom lids are removable, and the round shape keeps everything neatly coiled. http://dwr.com/productdetail.cfm?id=0132
