Unfortunately, the $250 price tag is still high enough to warrant pause. Although not quite as design sexy as the Nest, the Honeywell does offers 7 day programming, intelligent alerts, energy savings scheduling, and free smart phone apps compatible with iPhone, iPad and Android devices at less than half the price of a Nest. Reviews online rave about the features, but some note installation may require the aid of an electrician or HVAC installer.

But if it's functionality you're after, the CyberStat thermostat offers many of the same features as the models above for around $75 with a glowing 4.3 out of 5 stars on Amazon.
