Budget NetBooks For First Time Users

Recently, we found ourselves having to give away a portable, webcam enabled, WiFi ready, Windows compatible computer to a close relative. They wanted to partake in the magic of Skype, Facebook, Twitter and Flickr, so all they really needed was a netbook type device, and since cost was an issue, a netbook seemed the best choice versus a full sized laptop or tablet...

Asus Eee PC 1015PEM
For $368 you can get this little Netbook with 1GB of RAM, 250 Hard Drive and 10.1" matte finish LED Display. Bluetooth and WIFI are standard, so is the vga resolution webcam and the pre-installed Windows 7. Intel Atom N550 dual core processor will take care of all the number crunching for you and it has a pretty decent battery life.

Acer Aspire One D255
A little bit less on the monetary scale at $259, comes this 10.1" screen, of what they call CrystalBrite LED display at 1024 x 600 resolution. Atom N450 with low power consumption doesn't take a toll on the 4HR battery life. WiFi is standard and so is the Windows 7 Starter kit. 160 GB harddrive and 1GB of RAM will keep you running at a decent speed. You can video Skype with friends thanks to the 1.3 Megapixel webcam.

Samsung NF310-A01
A gun metal exterior surelly breaks it apart from the all black counterparts. $367 will get you the standard Atom N550, 10.1 screen (at 1366 x 768) and a battery life of up to 9 hours. 250 GB hardrive and 1GB of RAM. Also comes with 3 USB ports for connecting all your gadgets. At 2.87 pounds, it is light enough to be carried anywhere.

Dell Inspiron Duo
Is it a tablet or a netbook? it's both! At a $549 premium, the money goes towards the ability of converting it self, Transformer's style into a netbook and tablet in one fluid motion. The price difference will buy you additional storage and memory: 2GB of RAM and 320 GB hard drive, running at 7200 RPMs. Windows 7 Home Premium and 10.1 Widescreen with 1366 x 768 and multi touch display with built in 1.3 MP webcam.

At the end of the journey, we got the Samsung. It was light enough to be carried anywhere and we really love the screen resolution.
