There's a new destination for décor for less dollars. As part of their younger, cooler rebranding, JC Penney is showcasing chic design collaborations, with some familiar faces and favorites in the mix.
I'm particularly excited to check out Jonathan Adler's Happy Chic line for the department store when it launches this month. Michael Graves, the icon formerly behind the original Target design collab, has a collection debuting at JCP in March, as well.
The retailer seems to be working out the kinks, still. I've barely seen any publicity for these launches. Some items from the playfully patterned Duro Olowu line are available, but most are pre-order. Pantone Universe has some basic bed and bath items in Color of the Year Emerald and a few other hues, but nothing that really pushes the envelope - yet.
Have you seen any of these new lines in the stores? What did you think?

Because if there's one thing the world needs is more chevron...
Wow, thanks for posting this. As I haven't darkened the door of JCP in at least 10 years, I never would have known about the Jonathan Adler collection. Can't wait to take a look.
But the world could always use more Jonathan Adler!
Jonathan Adler and JC Penney? Color me excited!
I've really liked some of their collabs. The Ronson stuff is pretty cute as well. I'm interested to see what comes next.
You'd be surprised - I live in Ireland and you can't get it here for love nor money, it seems to be an American thing (so thank god for the internet)
I also haven't been to JC Penney in a really long but I will absolutely be taking a trip to check out the new Jonathan Adler line!! Yay!!
It says available March 2013 and I think it's March 2013....bring it on!
I'm with you! I can't wait to see the JA stuff in person!
I think JCP is a wonderful and underappreciated decorating resource, especially their window coverings department. I got my ikat-design sheers there for about $20/pair and free shipping -- compare to $40 each for similar ones from West Elm. They have a huge selection of curtains in 96" and 108" lengths.
JCP have managed to remake themselves into a store with good merchandise and, even more of a shock, smart, helpful salespeople who really know the stock. I had not shopped there in years, and now I go regularly instead of to Macys and Sears.

"Younger" is not synonymous with "cooler."
I live in a small town and unfortunately our JCP store isn't quite surfing the new wave yet. It still looks like a place only my grandmother would shop.
rexrayfan, try their website. You can order online and ship to the store for free, no minimum. Free shipping to your house is free for orders over $75. They take online-order returns at the store, so no return shipping charge either. I live in a big city, and still some parts of our Penneys store have not been upgraded. You go down the escalator into housewares and it is like going back in time! So while I have been in the store recently for clothing, I never bother for anything else and just head to the website.
I remember Sears catalogs from the 70's and pretty much where Jonathan Adler got his inspiration.
We talked about the jcp rebranding in class recently, and the Pantone sheets were mentioned. I hadn't been in one in years, and was pleasantly surprised by the new stuff they were rolling out. I was shocked by how little hype I'd heard about it.
I got lost and took the wrong turn into a JCP today. Boy, was I surprised at the affordable prices, sale on top of sale, and new names. I saw Duro, but not as impressed with the quality of the mats and limited selection. Didn't see JA... Wasn't MG at Target once?
I like that more designers are branching towards Sears, JCP, & Target.
Well, I know where I'll be running to when JA gets there! Everything looks gorgeous and I've always loved JA's style. Unfortunately, can't afford most of the stuff he sells. Very excited for his collection.
b77 HHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAAHHA. I also survived the Seventies.
I've always been a JCP shopper. I love the rebranding in the stores....I think it started a few years ago with the "store in a store" American Living sections. Go there!
I really applaud what JCP is doing — I now actually seek out their Sunday supplement ads in the newspaper (to date showing mostly clothes). Everything they picture looks contemporary and fresh and the prices are great.
But where I live they get nothing but bad press. The older people who are their mainstay shoppers are very loud about their displeasure. ("Where are my elastic-waist pants?") I was so happy that JCP's CEO didn't back down when political conservatives threatened a boycott when he used Ellen DeGeneres in an ad campaign. Yes, THAT Ellen. The one who's recruiting our youth to be gay. Seriously.
I do hope the changes are successful, but I hear that some stores will be closing in neighborhoods that aren't supporting the changes. Younger people, check out JCP. If your store has the new merchandise, you won't be disappointed.
H.Wood, "younger isn't synonomous with cooler". Was that necessary?
Here you go - ¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿
Jonathan Adler! WOW! I'd walk across broken glass to get to some of his designs. So I will be shopping in JCP again and soon. And BTW, I heard on NPR (just this morning) that JCP sales decreased 30% in the past year. That is HUGE. I really think they are going in the right direction in many ways. I sure hope that the JCP near me holds on... at least until I get to buy some Jonathan Adler items :)
The Jonathan Adler products are now available online at JCP.com. The line is rather extensive. It includes furniture (e.g., sofas, beds, chairs, lamps, etc.), bedding, decorative accessories and window treatments, etc. Prices are very reasonable and the stuff looks great. I just bought at a blue velvet ottoman.
