BA is not only bursting with design inspiration, it offers up restaurants, furniture stores, and fashion boutiques that rival many in New York (the whole city felt like a fusion of NYC, Paris, Madrid, and Rome). Here are just a few favorites I found on my trip (though locals will argue there are loads more).
From the vintage wares in La Pasionaria to the organic goods at Costado to the rich, colorful textiles at Elementos Argentinos, I found myself inspired by the diversity in the city's design offerings. So whether you're planning a trip to BA this year or it's simply on your bucket list, make sure to hit these spots when you get there. Don't miss the cafes at both museums too, which not only satisfy your design palate but serve up tasty bites as well. If you've already made the trek, share your tips below!

I love BA. I lived there for a few months, studying architecture in grad school. My list of must see's: Museo Xul Solar, amazing design shops in Palermo "Hollywood" including a gorgeous Puma Store-slash-bar, Calatrava's Puente de la Mujer, the opera house, and Pasaje Barolo which was designed as an allegory to Dante's Divine Comedy. The building is exactly 100 meters tall and has mutiple tiers that correspond to the levels of hell, purgatory and paradise described in Dante's work.
How are the prices there?
When I was there in 2008, prices were about 1/3 of the typical American rates. It made for some very good shopping!
once again, my lovely city ♥ in AT!
about our prices, 2008 was a long time ago, considering that there is a ridiculous inflation!
I`m from BA, born and raised here! Thanks for such lovely words about my city! I can tell you it is a really good time to come and visit because you´ll find it very cheap. It`s actually full of foreign people! Recoleta, San Telmo, Palermo are full with people from all over the world! lots of european too.
Wow !!!. I just came back to Dallas today after spending two wonderful weeks in the city I was born in. Please consider visiting Buenos Aires, it's a beautiful city, and those who appreciate architecture (all styles), and creative design (also, all styles), will be forever hooked up. Do not miss Palermo, Recoleta, Puerto Madero, San Telmo, Avenida de Mayo, Avenida Alvear, Barracas.. Thank you for taking the time to portray my beautiful home town.
Wow! Cant wait to be able to trabel to BA some day!Has to be so beautiful and exciting!
I've been meaning to visit BA, it's on my top three list for a big trip this year. If anyone has any advice, please share! Mostly, I'd love to know what a good amount of time would be to spend there (a week? A few days more or less?) and what a good budget would be to bring.
Also - would you advise doing BA as a trip in and of itself, or visit somewhere else in S America in the same trip?
My husband and I love BA! We went in Dec 2008 with friends, and again in August 2011 for our honeymoon :) We spent two weeks there for our honeymoon, and kept meaning to travel to other spots in Argentina, but we never made it. There's so much to see and do in BA, we just love it. Check out bytargentina.com for great apartment rentals (I don't work for them, honestly, but we've used them for both trips and were so impressed with the service). Can't wait till we can go back again!
Oh, my favorite! I love BA.
Lovely to see the city in live in at AT :) Thanks for sharing! I must say that, although I was born & raised in BA, I still see myself many times as a tourist in here :) Apart from the places that have already been mentioned, I would also recommend not to miss the old cafes in here... They just make you fly away back in time... They have been named as "Cafés Notables" (Notable cafes) by the government because of their hisotical & cultural importance (and because of their great old style!) and they are located throughout the city. And yes, BA is worth taking a trip just to stay here... although I would highly recommend to visit our country side and spend time amongst "gauchos" and enjoy the best "asado" (kind of barbecue, but far better! :) and/or to cross the river Plate and visit wonderful neighbouring country, Uruguay (especially Colonia del Sacramento, Montevideo -the capital city-, and all the holidays resorts in there. Uruguay is more expensive than Argentina, but BA is not THAT cheap either :(. Depends on your budget, but don´t come expecting very low prices...
Anyway, BA is a friendly city (please be careful with pickpocketers & stuff) and will always be open for everyone and to anyone who wants to have a great time :)
Congrats again on the post!
Mercedes.
Sorry, I meant "historical"... :)
great colors. I love this
I'm headed there in 2 weeks...this has me even more excited for the trip!
