Kim & Scott Vargo make up the dynamic duo found over at Yellow Brick Home and have been kind enough to share their home with us in the past. They've recently made an update to their media center and although we thought it was a sweet set up before, this one takes the cake and stretches all the way to the ceiling!
This wall has 4 different depths to it ranging from a mere 5 inches to the base depth of 17 inches. Because the unit seems to lean back against the wall it not only feels less intrusive in the room, but fills the entire vertical space without feeling heavy.
They changed the color of the wall and even added in some custom brackets to support slide out platforms for easy record changing. They started out with a plan and the end result shows how important that is, as it's custom fit for their space and looks amazing. The entire diy wall makeover ran Kim and Scott right around the $250 mark and considering retail units sell for 3-4 times that... we're thinking it's money (and time!) well spent.

I miss the green :(
Love YBH and their media wall! :)
Glad that green is gone and the result looks amazing.
Looks wonderful, and how inspiring! (I too, am glad to see the clashing green gone...)
I love their entertainment center. They did such a great job planning and executing the design. I'm sure the added storage doesn't hurt considering their space is tiny. Such great features and look.
excellent! i loved their post before but this just makes it complete.
Why is the tv hanging out of it like that?
Gorgeous! But isn't the blog Yellow Brick Home (not House)?
Thanks, AT! What a pleasant surprise :)
To answer a few questions:
birdie_dc: yup, we're Yellow Brick Home. Thank you for catching that!
JustBekky: the television is mounted to the wall, and the cables are fished behind the drywall. It's tilted down just slightly so that while sitting on our couch, the angle is perfect!
And everyone else, we don't miss the green either! Plus, we still have it peeping out of our entry...
Nicely done, dig the solid piece of wood for all three cabinet fronts...my only worry would be with the receiver, I don't see any air holes or fans for that space. You watch LOTR and its gonna get smoking hot in there...
of course, I guess you can just leave the front open...never mind.
Not a huge fan of the wooden panels at the bottom. I think I'd prefer a color or just white instead, but love the concept and seems really simple to do.
