One thing you'll never hear when discussing bedroom design is 'It's nice, but it has too much storage. Do you think we could lose the closet?' Keeping a child's bedroom neat and organized is a daunting task in the best of circumstances. When there is a lack of adequate storage then that task becomes almost hopeless. Here is a great project that utilizes the precious space under the bed for something besides breeding dust bunnies.
The Family Handyman has free online plans for a sturdy under the bed storage box that will help keep down the clutter. It is a fairly straightforward project, with the most difficult part being cutting the plywood, which can be a bit tricky for the uninitiated. Check out these cutting tips which will help you get cutting square and safe.
The box rolls out easily on four casters and can be customized to fit your area. Be sure to use paint-grade interior plywood if you plan to paint it. All in all, a nice project that older children can take part in. Getting them to use the boxes is up to you.
