Today I am having one of those days where I wish I could dismiss the responsibilities of being an adult and just escape into the life of a 10-year-old. A favorite childhood memory is having a slumber party with my friends and building a fort with all the blankets we could find and the only light was that of a flashlight. Who says building forts has to be just a childhood activity? Sometimes we have to remember to relax a bit and have a little fun. Now I am off to see just how many blankets are available to build my own personal retreat.

Sheex Bedding
I love it! This is what I try to do with my kids' rooms--injecting places for private whimsy and imagination.
That first pic reminds me of an episode of Community.
This reminds me of when I had bunk beds and would make my own retreat complete with lights!
I absolutely LOVE forts. I may be an adult, but I want to recreate this in my living room!
Much love,
B
@jaimetime, I was about to write the same thing. That show is great
I want a canopy bed for just this reason. I would love to have sheers surrounding the bed, like a tent.
My husband just made a tent retreat for me this week for my birthday...here's a link to it. I love that dreamy white tent!

i think its easier to be an adult. make decisions for yourself. i wouldn't want to be 10 again.
Aaaah the fort....brings back memories.....good times! My parents used to scold us "No Forts" when they went out and I babysat my younger brother and sister.
@HeatherAB - thanks for sharing your own fort. I love it!
This is the perfect idea for my tiny third bedroom that I want to use a a meditation room/quiet space... Can't wait!
hey, there's my teepee. yay!
the teepee was actually used in a shoot for Lenny & Eva cuffs recently. if you'd like to see some of the photos from it, you can see them in this post http://lifeamundo.blogspot.com/2011/01/lenny-and-eva.html
I always loved making forts as a kid and then again with my children. When I was a kid, we'd make the fort outside with sheets and blankets on the clothesline. What great memories. I hope to repeat the process with my grandchildren (when one comes along).
