We already know that Portland is on the cutting-edge of all things green -- so, it makes sense that someone there would be working seriously with structural insulated panels (SIPs).
According to Jetson Green, Seed Architecture and Kaya General Contractors just announced their plans to build the first house in Portland using SIPs.
The goal of the house is to save 70 percent on energy bills.
What makes the story even more interesting is that Portland's structural code doesn't allow building with SIPs, so it took some considerable effort just to get the project approved.
