Q: I collect bulls. My boyfriend saw this one at a Banana Republic as display. Does anyone know where I can buy this one or one like it? Thanks!

Shaw's Original Fir...
i wonder if stores sell off their displays when they're finished?
i have seen a couple that i would love to have.
Do you have 2 grand? http://d-vers.com/thai-varick-bull-heavy-gauge-copper-wire-sculpture-p-339.html
I love it, reminds me of Calder's Wire sculptures.
Buy some wire and unleash your inner Calder.
Ask to buy it. My mother always told me everything is for sale. I liked a pair of tables that were being used for display in a store. I told her they weren't for sale. Waala. We went home with them. Ask. At some price everything is for sale. Just ask a politician.
Make it. Buy some floral wire (available pretty much any crafts store) and get to twistin'!
@ Village - i would assume this might be at a local or independently owned store. it's great advice, and i might have to use that in the future...but having worked for larger retail stores before, they are normally required to merchandise identically to other stores, so i doubt they would sell their pieces for any price, at the risk of pissing off corporate.
I agree with cbreynolds. I say try to make one! If you're not artistically inclined perhaps you could pay an artist friend to make one.
Do a search under "wire animals" on Etsy: http://www.etsy.com/people/wireanimals?ref=ls_profile
I would say ask. I work at a retail store that people always want our frame inserts. We put them on a list and once the season has passed (and don't need the display) we were allowed to get rid of them. No harm in it!
If you're willing to accept something outside the realm of the bull, Foundary.com was selling large wire horse statues about a month ago. I believe they were also selling giraffe ones too, but I'm not sure about that, I believe they were around $300 a piece, a considerable amount less than Etsy. I'm definite they were selling roosters, which is a clique wire animal (if there is such a thing!). Maybe Foundary might have bulls in the future. It's worth keeping an eye out for!
Definitely just ask them if you can have it or buy it when the store is done with it. I work at a retail store and most of the display stuff gets thrown out or taken home by employees. You might have to wait a bit, though-- even when the season is over stores sometimes hold on to things for a while to see if they can use them again.
You can't just twist some wire and end up with a "Thai Varick" work of art. I have 4 of his works and could be persuaded to sell one. They are however horses and they are FABULOUS.......
I knew the man and have the first bull he ever made. He made herds of horses, which didn't interest me, so I asked him to make me a bull, which he did, while sitting in front of Zabars. Regarding Thai Varick's wire pieces. Remember to look for a heart, each piece has a heart. Also, Thai used to write a "birth certificate" for each piece on a page torn from a yellow legal pad. If someone offers you one of the late Mr. Varick's works check for the heart and ask to see the birth certificate.
I prefer the bull over the horse as well. The birth certificate is news to me. Would love to see a picture of one.
Can someone tell me who is the owner of this bull, please? I would like to speak with him or her? A dear friend of the artist... thank you kindly.
